I did contemplate starting another thread but decided to stay with this one.
In the last year we seem to have lost many regular posters in one way or another. There are those who have announced they will only post occasionally and then there are those who have left voluntarily or were pushed.
The way things are going soon there will only be the dull repetitive tit for tat political posts keeping it going. In the last year we have lost some very knowledgeable members who would give us the facts rather than conjecture or even at times downright wrong information. Maybe this is the cause of the obvious frustration that rears its head now and then.
We are always being told that many people who are not members read the forum maybe we should query why more of these readers do not join.

I can understand Paul's concern, more than half the threads are, or seem to become, political, and a low percentage about Dover itself.
Please, let's have a bit less politics and bickering !

there has always been a turn over of members on the forum for different reasons, work changes, domestic changes, people simply getting bored with forums in general, some prefer facebook and twitter.
the reason so many look in and not join is twofold;
a) they just want to know what is going on locally.
b) they feel that once they post they will get dragged in to all threads.
another problem is some that don't like anyone disagreeing with them, taking personal umbrage over it!! chris and myself get messages from people reporting posts that are totally innocuous.

I can only say that the very few are spoiling the forum for everybody else. I hardly ever post now and when you look back you suddenly realise just how many interesting people this forum has lost.

Well, in the nicest possible way, no. It is quite impossible to have 'less' Politics, there could be fewer politics threads, and this is not just a quaint point to make, fewer in number and a smaller percentage of the threads here.
The point has to be that the percentage of such threads; posts or thread visits they attract, is merely what the more verbose of us wish to do.
There is scope for far more local, and more locally-pertinent threads to appear. Alas, the answer to why this is not the case is in the very hands of those who wish it were so.
It is probably more complicated than this. In that those here who are devoted to history have other online avenues to expose their endeavours. It may be that one visit to such a thread here takes the visitor off exploring their other sites and from there, other sites and so on.
Two final points...
Is there no feedback from the residents as you each go about your daily business?
Is it time for another get-together?
P.S.
I do agree that bickering is unwelcome. (I'm not sure whether I should be scourging my own back though.)
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

nothing anyone can do on what people post about but i notice there is very little interest engendered by local events and our coast/countryside.
we are privileged to get stunning photos from paul sampson and others at wccp, more recently birds and wildlife from ian roberts and phil smith, the sea thread starring paul b, ed, john mavin and others.
very little enthusiasm from members, start a political thread and it will run riot in no time.

no shortage of feedback from the dover public, without fail they love the picture threads above all else.

Thank you Howard, I did intend that it be a broad rhetorical poser.

Tom I would never accuse you of bickering, debating yes but never those short repetitive replies that appear over and over again on all the political threads.
The above also covers Howard's "run riot" comment about the political threads, lots of posts that actually give no new information and say very little except snipe at the alternative view.

I have re read post 2 and given an over view to what many members have felt, without doubt paul became a little frustrated and some comments even personal, the forum survives through the hard work of howard/chris to try to keep everyone in line, which is very difficult when you have such differing views.
I do find it amusing that it looks like its all my fault(jacqui) for daring to have a different view to some posters such as david little ed connell.
Whilst some of the posters may share there view(thats fine) it is a far reaching forum, varied, and like martin says you can choose what to read, what to write, what thread to take part in, or thread to start yourself, you could not ask for any more.
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

Please delete all of my posting and photographs, I will go elsewhere.
This place has ceased to be any fun for a long time. Some knowledgeable and interesting posters have been pushed out or stopped posting. It's all about moaning about politics, and anything good and local just gets pushed down the pages without comment
Goodbye.....
Still waiting for my photographs (and postings) to being deleted from this and my old account please....

Paul, you have two choices, put up with the things you dislike and remain in the forum, or shut up and go. You have left at least three times since I joined, the forum is not here to massage you damaged ego, either stay, or go!

How bloody rude!
Hope you're ok Paul. Your postings are missed by me and a lot of others. At least I have your books still - take care

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Have to agree with Jacqui and Jan.
Unnecessary comments Phil. Paul has been a very valuable member of the Forum and has given some extremely good information on local history (and other local interests). I believe his leaving was borne out of frustration.

Damaged ego ??!!!!
I am going and staying gone, if 'admin' doesn't have the common decency to contact me before deleting my posts, then I don't want to be here.... I have popped back in to request again that my photographs to be deleted on my account(s) as there is no facility for a user to do this themself.....

every member can delete their own posts should they wish to, i do not have the time or inclination to go back over all threads posted on here over the last 5 years to do so.

I am not surprised Howard I would not want the job of deleting 490 posts either.
Paul looks like you are going to be busy if you decide want to go through that lot, which will be a shame and to be honest rather petty.
