I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread like this to pass on all the good things that people do.
I will start with this from FB posted by Alec Pichon.
"A MASSIVE thank you to the kind staff at Morrisons in Dover. They’d had to shut their cafe, and rather than sell the stock, they donated it to the Riverside Centre! One THOUSAND sausages, sixty large packs of bacon, three crates of eggs, kilos of grated cheese, kilos of butter and UHT milk. Their donation will be a huge boost to our efforts to keep Dover’s most vulnerable fed in their time of need. Thank you Morrisons!"

This is a great donation that Morrison’s have made but after the new restrictions that Boris has made just now, how will they be able to make the most of this kind donation?
Are they an organisation that have the facilities and knowledge to organise house deliveries of what is mainly perishable foodstuffs as clearly large gatherings, even to enjoy any meals provided, is out of the question now.

Bob, they already run a meals on wheels service as the centre had to close so they should not be affected by the new stringent rules.

Oh great Jan. I was not aware of the overall activities of the Riverside centre.

So good to see a “good news” thread. After reading the story on the news section of this site about collecting outside Morrisons, I looked up the Beacon Church and went to their website and saw they have been given loads of vegetables such as mushrooms, tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers and beans, by Fred Olsen cruises because they can’t use them without passengers. The church, in Bartholomew Street, was giving them away yesterday evening and this morning from 9 to 10am. Presumably they will still be able to do this despite the new restrictions because food is essential and it would be silly to waste it. Might be worth a look.

Thank you Jim, it is so good to have another bit of good news amid all the doom and gloom being broadcast on the news programmes.

We need to have more of this kind of brilliant news instead of all the doom and gloom the media feed us. Sorry for repeating myself but the news programmes are so negative.

I have just read this on FB, I know this writer who is still working even though pregnant and along with everyone else I say a huge thank you to all NHS workers and also the hard working carers who look after those at home........
"It really made my day this morning seeing all the rainbows and well wishes in people's windows. I work at the William Harvey in microbiology and due to everyone being at home, usually have to park quite far from my house when I get back from work. When I walked to my car at 6.30 this morning it would have been a bit miserable but instead I ended up going to work with a smile on my face and a positive attitude. They really do make a difference, thank you all so much!"

"University College London engineers worked with clinicians at UCLH and Mercedes Formula One to build the device, which delivers oxygen to the lungs without needing a ventilator."
I hope this new device is as good as it seems both for now and after this emergency is over for those with breathing problems.

The amount of money raised as a tribute to Captain Tom and our amazing NHS frontline staff at the time of posting is a staggering £23,393,704.34. I was just saying to my daughter I would not be surprised if it reached £50 million in the end the way things are going.
This link gives how the money raised will/might be spent.

Having to use online shopping due to being ‘confined to barracks’ during the current Coronavirus lockdown It was interesting to see how the different operatives’ approached their roles.
A young lady arrived with one delivery and rang the bell and said, “don’t open the door and I will unpack your goods outside.”
It was rather a large order, as we were also helping neighbours with their shop, but she unpacked the boxes putting the bags of frozen and chilled food nearest the door.
Upon completion she knocked on the door and with a cheery wave she proceeded on her way! I called out my thanks to her, she replied, “that’s my job, stay safe!”
Today a male arrived with a smaller order and I called over the gate, “can you leave it by the door please.”
He replied, “yes, you can unpack it.” Which I did whilst he stood back. I thanked him for the delivery, to which he said, “some people think that we are just delivery drivers!”

That man does sound as if he is just a delivery driver, luckily my delivery lady lives with me so my daughter also unpacks and cleans and cooks.

This post is a mixture of good and sad news, my great-granddaughter goes to the same school as the little boy who had the tumour, some help is now needed by someone who helped that family.
Here is the FB post from Matt Gough....
"Two and half years ago friend and the local community came together to help support my family after we received news my Nephew has been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour.
At that point you Nephew’s home was undergoing renovations. Support flooded in after I made an appeal for anyone to help me finish the work in time for my Nephews return home after his treatment.
I was floored by the help that cane forward and will always have gratitude for what they achieved for my family.
One such person that came forward was Mark James.
Mark gave up many weekends with his family to help ensure the house was completed on time!
Now it’s time for me to help him and his family!!!
Recently I discovered that Mark has been diagnosed with Cancer of the Throat and has undergone multiple operations and months in hospital, leaving him with a tracheostomy, Mark is now going through gruelling Radiotherapy!
At the same time as his diagnosis and treatment his family home had been having renovations, however they have now been abandoned by their builder (who has had the full amount paid to him!), leaving them in a house that is unsafe, open to the elements and a big bill to to put right the work that has already been done as well complete it!
Mark and his wife Davina James are pursuing the builder by legal action, however this takes time and is not an immediate fix to the situation they are currently living through!
Therefore I have taken it upon myself to appeal to anyone that might be able to help in anyway!
Please contact me directly so that I can go some way to repay the kindness they showed me and my family"
