23:5093084I didn't know you were always complaining about the town Keith. I always thought you liked Dover, you have really suprised me.

i was born and bred in Dover(tower hamlets boy)love dover wont ever move away
had lots of opportunities to move to york some years back but i stayed.
yes i'm passionate about Dover but also frustrated at seeing so many missed opportunities. and a planning dept that lacks vision.
Troble is when you live here all your life and see decline and prospects grim although trying to stay positive, constructive comments should also be the order of the day.
I want to see dover flourish, and i don't care who achieves it.
so there you have it

00:2193091I have been in the area for about 40 years most of that time in Dover apart from the 8 years when I lived in lovely Suffolk.
I must admit that when I moved back to Dover in 2004 I was shocked how untidy the place seemed, then I realised it was because Beccles town was based round it's Market Square so was not as spread out as Dover.
The main thing that still annoys me is the rubbish blowing around the streets but I am sure that will improve if we get the wheelie bins. What will the seagulls do for food then.
I believe Dover is improving, maybe not fast enough for some though.

the wheelie bin issue is another thats a prob.
the hilly areas concerned how long it will be before there wheelie bins go for a ride down the hills.
then theres though that wont be getting a wheelie bin.
and i havn't yet got onto the recycling the new plans whilst applaudable many wont understand the complex system so will end up not using it

09:0193104I think Keef is right to express his views about both the advantages and disadvantages of living in Dover and what future steps the town should take to stop its decline. One doesn't always have to agree but moan away my old mate and maybe just maybe somebody will take some notice.

09:0593106Yes Keith, keep making straight-from-the-hip posts, it's most entertaining to watch the righteous indignation which follows!

12:1393472Like Sue, I've seen the revised concept for the St James area and it will be exciting when it is developed.
It was disappointing when Asda pulled out but I do wonder how serious they were all along - it was always going to be their next board meeting for a final decision.
Some said at that time that we didn't need another supermarket in town - I think that Morrison's have now proved that to not be correct and with Netto (Now owned by Asda nationally) seeking to enlarge their store the big 'T' is being taken on - competition can only be good for the town.
Developments do take a long time. I understand that the complex in Folkestone where Asda are and I hear not doing too well, took about 18 years. The St James site has complicated land assembly involved - Lidl are currently demolishing their building - the former MFI.
Believe me, I am as frustrated as anyone - possibly more - that nothing has happenied so far but, this tiime I'm feeling a lot more positive after seeing the proposal - in fact I made a comment at the meeting in that if the community could see the suggestion they would say just get on with it - and that's what we need to do.

12:2693474I am a great fan of just getting on with it. Lots of great things happen after that "swan effect": lots of paddling in the hidden depths but calm and elegance above the waterline.

13:0493478I just hope that this exciting development whatever it is has a good bus service so those of us who live up the other end of town can reach it easily.

13:1193480The land assembly issue is proving frustrating for us too. Three properties on the south side of Castle St (us, the old Ian Farthing's solicitor's office at no 50, and the chip shop) will lose part of our back gardens. The council have purchased the garden of no 50 already and we have agreed in principle to swap the back half of ours with the near half of no 50. Fine but it's all now held up because some bright spark in the Conservation department has decided that they need listed building consent to demolish this ugly duckling:

13:3893484Is it not an old bakery or something with the brick ovens still in place?
