went past the golden lion earlier rab and some of his regulars were loading stuff into a van.
didn't think it would close that quickly.

Yet more of Dover's once-proud history sacrificed to the modern day virus of rapacious greed and short-termism.
The Golden Lion is/was a good pub. A proper boozer - and well run. But the fast-buck vultures must have their way.
These are sad, sad days.
Such a shame, i hope the find a new pub locally so the regulars can still enjoy being together.

cant help you there howard,went pass on a bus and saw people there doing stuff.but there was a skip outside there yesterday.

went past yesterday and today and both time the "golden lion" had it's door open, does anyone know of any plans for it?

No but hopefully it is a sign of reopening. It is one of Dover's 'good old' pubs and would be a loss to the town should it close forever.

bit murky today for a good picture, but a "for sale" sign is outside with the rejoinder "reduced price".
i bet the owners regret driving rab out now, a lot of lost rent money.

howard,i did post on another thread that it was up for sale.but did notice a lot of beer barrels and gas bottels outside the old pub,with a transit van parked nearby.

was told today that the "golden lion" was reopening soon.
when i went past there was no sign of life and the "for sale" sign was still up.
i wonder ifanyone else has heard anything.

Unfortunately the Great God Wetherspoon has put paid to community local boozers within a mile radius.

i thought that the "golden lion" was bucking the trend, it always seemed to be doing good business.
i know a few of their customers went to the sea angling club after it closed.
