21:4971025i think we are being a bit unfair on vic.
anyone that is keen on working must be given credit, how many times have we said about others that are quite happy to sit in front of their plasma television paid for out of benefits when young and perfectly fit for work?
i do understand the chagrin of the young who are trying to get a foothold into work though.

21:5571027Lets try to even this up a bit then.
VIC without a shadow of doubt is passionate about his work/UKIP/and Dover.
and for this I appluad him.
All some posters are indicating is that the more people over 65 that keep working the less jobs for younger than 65 will be around.
On the question of politics I truely feel for VIC but that said people have decided vics not there man.
Vic would be better off getting involved in local campaigns/events and avoiding elections. I say this as one that watched vic at the first count he attended where i saw VIC close to tears.
Thats not what I want to see again.

21:5671029As I said Howie, a very touchy thread........there are those that want to and those that don't want to.
Our system has been far to weak for too long and it needs a good shake up.
I think someone put it on another thread. you want unemployment benefit? THEN WORK FOR IT. for the community.
If I was in the situation again I would be happy to do so.

21:5771031Vic....
I am Jan not Mrs Higgins
Are you trying to be awkward or is that your normal attitude to posters who have the nerve to disagree with you. No wonder people get annoyed with you on here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

that debate will run and run, nothing will change, governments need so called scroungers, they provide a smoke screen for the inability to solve the problem.

22:2771048My Mum and Dad always said try and be polite at all times and to respect others, and I try to do just that, that does not mean that if you call anyone by their first name that it is not respectfull, and if I know them very well, then if I am out with them I will call them by their first name but some of you I do not know well so I say Mr or Mrs it is just the way I go about things, I still call my ex boss and his wife Mr and Mrs and have know me some 14years or more I would not be happy calling them by their first names.

13:3871113One problem concerning work is that many people have not the money to have it done. This is the case, for example, with painting and decorating! One need only see how many rusty railings there are in Dover, many people won't have a rusty railing painted as it would cost too much.

16:3471169As I said before there are alot of jobs out there but not in Dover.I am looking in the Sun newspaper today and there are two pages of jobs even wanted trainee plumbers and Electricians, groundworks, Carpenters, pipe Layers ,Dumper Drivers, Drivers, welders, and the list goes on and on, also Brickwork Training Courses Two day Course can be done at weekends £145 only. Years ago My job was coming to a end at Ashford Railway works so on the Monday I saw in the Sun welders needed in Germany ,I phoned up went up to London on Tuesday for my welding test,I pass it ,they told me that they would let me know if I got the job.I was on nights that week so because i was in LONDON inthe daytime I had to get off the train at Ashford and go to work at 1800hrs so no rest, done my nights work got home went to bed next thing was my wife woke me up said "phone call from London for you" and the voice said you must be on the plane on Friday if you need that job so said goodbye to my wife and kids and went ,at that time there was no jobs in the UK just like today, but if you need work this is the kind of thing you have to do,I did not want to go but it was the only place for work if you was a welder, must say in the end my wife left me, but I needed to work.Would I do it today if I had to?Yes.

18:0071186Jan, going back to your post #16, you seem to me missing the simple fact that retirement ages are being moved back because of the previous government's overspending.
This means all persons under a certain age are now being forced to work later in life before the state pension kicks-in.
Luckily for me, I just scrape in and can still retire, if I choose, at 65. Because of the nature of my work, where experience counts as much as academia, if not more in some situations, I foresee me working until 70, health permitting.
I think most of us would prefer to retire earlier and enjoy a bit life before pegging out, but that choice is now denied to millions whether we like it or not.
