I can see garden waste fly tipping increasing.
..............."One sack will be given to people who sign up, with a plastic pocket for the licence to be displayed in, and additional sacks can either be bought for £3.75 each or residents can provide their own"..........
After the recent high winds the sacks will be blown away and the licence lost, what will happen then.
............"Mr Walton says bin men will be checking purple refuse sacks and wheelie bins to make sure they are not being used for garden rubbish"............."If large volumes of garden waste are found to be present".........
So the bin men will waste time tearing open purple sacks and rummaging in wheelie bins and a large volume to one person is not to another.
Surely a better scheme would be a reasonable charge per bag/sack rather than a blanket licence. A small terraced house with one bag or less a month paying the same as a mansion with their six bags a fortnight is hardly fair.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It isn't really a statutory duty of the council so they don't need to do it, so I cannot see a problem with charging for it...
Been nice knowing you :)

Other Councils Charge .If you read the Cabinet Agenda it clearly shows the councils which charge

jan highlights most of the potential problems in post 3.
if the refuse operatives start going through all the bags and bins then they will be on overtime for ever more, already collections are being later in the day because of taking the bins to the truck and back.
all this will cost a lot more than £40 a house.
The thing that is not right is that when the recycling scheme was being promoted as being for everyones benefit , then the proposal to charge for taking away a service that was until that point free should have been made public knowlege as well. Its the implied apparent duplicity that dosnt fit well with me
Free at the point of delivery - we already pay for our local services one way or another.

JHG did not predict it he read it is in a public agenda.
Sarah don't disagree with your comment although I have to say we have been warding this one off for two years. I find this a difficult but probably inevitable proposal, you will have read the previous subject headings and balancing budgets.
As Paul aka-- states this is not a compulsory service, perhaps we should have charged from the start like all other neighbouring councils did.
Hindsight etc.

Environmental zealots - don't you just love 'em?
True Bern
Paul , I appreciate your reply , I think once again this is an own goal , people who felt the recycling was being foisted upon them as part of a wider agenda now have the proof that they may feel they have been waiting for , and will be looking for the next stealth charge / reduction in ammenities . First the fountain then the green waste, whats next may well be the question from many .
Personally I can cope if I am treated as an adult and not drip fed inevitabilities and forgone conclusions , if this was always part of the process then an honest upfront disclosure is what was called for
Sorry JHG I forgot to thank you for the information you posted about this a while ago

I'm not sure what the need is for the green waste collection and what the take up is for it?
If you don't have a big garden you don't have much to get rid of anyway, and if you have a reasonable size garden then compost (like we do)

Been nice knowing you :)

It's not as if the clues weren't there long before any blight was imposed upon us. Sensible commentators have been warning of this bin blight and other mad green policies for years now but were largely ignored, such is the belief in the rubbish spouted by environmentalists and their apologists.
The next thing to watch out for are power cuts all over the UK. Environmental policies will make this inevitable. But of course most people are way behind the curve and it's only when there really is no light when you press the switch people will be crying "Waaaahhh why didn't someone tell me?"
As I keep banging on there is no climate change crisis, it never existed and is unlikely to but hey people we all need something to believe in and the end of the world is an easy one for our tiny minds to deal with.

I brought this up last year Paul when we were talking about the same contract as Shepway,as I pointed out if we are on the same contract and Shepway charge does that mean.....well the answer is yes then.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Sarah, I think " what next?" may well be a valid question.
This year it's only £800k to bridge the gap or cut services. As I have posted next year's sum is £1m on top of this years sum & last year's reduction of £2.4m.
We'll move into that subject once this year's decisions are made.
I don't expect it to be pretty or painless.
Just remember the origins of why we are here & it has nothing to do with local government.
This is a debt that local government is taking the share of having to reduce.
I'm writing facts not politics.
Ask the questions & I'll be honest with answers if I can legitmately answer them without compromising future decisions that involve others or divulge contractual delicacies.

We put the garden waste out last week, green bag was full so put the little bit that was left over in a green bin with the green bag on top of it. They left the green bin unemptied and placed the empty green bag within, mean..........

No John, the reference Sarah is pointing out, I believe, was your recent one you took from the Cabinet agenda.
Last year this matter was not one we put forward, even accepting Shepway already charge. We pay different rates for different levels of service.
Good try.
