Interestingly there has been an increase in diseases associated with Vitamin D deficiency noted in medical literature in the UK, Canada and the USA associated with immigrant communities, especially those who do not take on the western omnivore diet.
Sunlight is of course a source of vitamin D so I would suggest that it is even more important in northern latitudes to avoid wandering around in a body bag.

Speaking as the only woman so far to post a reply

.
I am against the burkha being worn in this country ias t is not part of our culture which I feel is slowly being eroded.
Women in the past struggled to gain the ststus they have today, one of the reasons so many foreigners want to come to this country. The burkha by it's very existance puts women back to being the non-person they were hundreds of years ago.
Part of the ability to integrate with your adopted country is communication, how can you get to know someone when there is no facial expression visable.
I should add I have no objection to the burkha being worn in the wearer's country of origin if it is their tradition.

actually jan bern has posted 5 times on this thread.
incidentally if it is found that the partner of the wearer has coerced the woman into wearing one, he gets fined too.

Bern, you see, wearing a burka can hide identities, as Bob pointed out! Bob, ask Howard if yoy can sit back in the front again! Or stand in the front.

When western women are in middle eastern countries they have to adopt the dress that is expected of all women in their country, so taking that into account the same should happen in europe. So its off with the burka on on with the white stilettos girls

But only if visiting Essex BWS.

come now barry surely the henriettas and assorted sloanes that inhabit henley, badminton and wimbledon are more your cup of tea?
Sid has made some good points regarding "ethnic minorities" which reminded me of a recent visit I had from a Jehovah`s witness.
I threw all sorts of religious questions at the chap on my doorstep and although I didn`t agree with much of what he said at least he had a lot of answers. ( Probably because he`d had the same questions time and again )
However, the only question he was stumped on was when I put forward the theory that he was really wasting his time and it was completely futile in trying to get converts due to the fact that, in due course, WE will be the minority in this country and the Muslim "culture" would then be enforced. Furthermore, him and his mates certainly wouldn`t be allowed to knock on doors trying to sell their version of religion as they would probably be beheaded! In fact no other religion would be tolerated, full stop.
Funny thing was, he didn`t disagree but did walk away looking rather thoughtful!

Too late Jan, Bern has already put the contract out. Best start running, I suggest westward as the towel-haded mob will be coming from the east, and not bearing gifts!
Don't panic too much, they have yet to hijack the plane and complete their benefits claim forms, so you have time to pack a rucksack.
