Dover have dropped down to 8th place in the league, but its realy tight at the top. 5 points seperating 2nd place and 9th place.
To go into the play off's Dover has to end up in the top 5.
Then of course theres that dilema, do Dover want to be promoted?
Dover has one of the best fan bases around non league lower levels, over 900 turn out every week, and many travel to away games.
But with promotion comes costs, more travelling, higher wages for players in that league, could the club survive being part time, if not, could the club afford to go full time?
Big business's are not falling over themselves to sponsor the club.
Just a viewpoint, but would Dover be better staying at this level?
The club chair is becoming concerned that crowds are not increasing even after many good results,
I want to see Dover up there in the football league, but do wonder if it will happen, or if they could afford it.
Whatever happens I will be one of the 900
Any thoughts(barryw sorry about this post)

when i asked before how dover went up to the next level i was told that they had to win the league.
first i have heard of play offs.
good point about the financial side, the economic downturn and also the very cold winter must have cost them some gate receipts.

First place goes up automatic
next 4 go into play offs for the 2nd one to go up
think thats it.
Yes, howard, and Dover played a lot away games so all pay out.
Dover at home t moz nite, desperate now for 3 points against a worcester side 4th from bottom who also need points t o avoid relegation.
I get to Crabble as often as I can, sadly not too often over the last couple of years because of living and working in Nigeria. But, when I have gone the football has been good and well worth the £10 entrance money. I worry about the cost of promotion, but would take it anyway.
As a point of interest, there are quite a number of DAFC coffee mugs in the offices in Lagos. I wonder how that came to be.

I haven`t been to a football match for many years, mainly because I`ve worked practically every weekend of my life, and also I haven`t the patience to stand or sit anywhere for so long. I do watch and read on here how Dover do. Regarding sponsorship if promoted, I don`t know about how they`re financed, but I`d be happy to DD £5 per month all year for them, which only add`s up to £60 a year, but if other`s did the same, that would be alot of cash. Feasible or does it already happen?

On footy in Dover I KNOW we share the same passion
but its no good the club getting into debt again, just to be promoted, nor would it be good to go up just to be relegated again.
Im sure the club is on sound footings now and will do what is best for the club.
Just hope those loyal supporters accept it should the club remain in this league.
As I say SID and I WILL be in the 900 whatever the outcome
Colin, if you go to the Supporters Club website, you can set up donation through there:

For those unable to get to home games, they are filmed and highlights put up for viewing later in the evening:
http://dafctv.1066-media.com/
The latter website was invaluable to me in Lagos, never missed a home match!

Again We agree!!!!!!!!
Colin the club would appreciate your kind donation.
Keith, I like to think we differ only on politics. You are probably aware that I am happy to go after any of our elected representatives, but it's never personal..

Thanks Keith and Sid, I`ve sent an email off. Actually, Vic invited me up there the other day to take some pics, but I`m unable to stand too long. Have to keep moving.

It is the perennial dilemma of lower league clubs, that balance between playing aspirations and financial sense.
I have seen my childhood club go from being owned by a local business man via a supporters trust back to being owned by a different local business man and in the process rack up £millions of debt all in pursuit of getting into League One. Now the club is having to trim costs, staff, playing staff etc. which has meant that the football has suffered and we are in danger of relegation.

Hi Colin
If you want to email me your address to
paul.harrison410@ntlworld.com i can pop one in the post to you if that would help.
To look at one of the points raised re finances, one of the problems with getting promoted to the league we are now in, is that it has bought with it a drop in gates and revenue. Although we are still averaging nearly 1100 which is fantastic we have dropped nearly 200 from last year. This is largely due to the increased travelling distance for away supporters and lack off local derbys against the likes off Maidstone, Tonbridge and Dartford.

Yes but the gates will come back the higher you go,look at the gates when we was top to ones we are geting now.
As you know My karen works for Stoke-City football club, and the gates have gone up because they are doing better and they had that good run in the F.A.cup.
So Dover needs to keep going, play good football and get back to winning do that, and the rest will come, but it does need alot more funding to do that.
I would like to see Stoke-City down at Dover for one of the pre-match,s after the summer.that would get a good gate.
And we are at home at Crabble tonight against Worcester, a game we really must look at winning to be right in the mix for a play off place.

yes Dover had most of the game but sadly worcester got the goals that matter, and the 3 points.
Dover still only 2 points off 5th place, can only hope.
Sid
Im sure even on politics there would be many issues we could agree.

A football thread Keith and you have to bring that dreaded word in.
