If you're thinking they don't look like the regular gang you're right, that particular group were volunteers from Affinity Water who go out once a month to help with community projects.
You'd see their company logo on the hi-vis jackets if it wasn't covered up by the lifejackets required for working in 3" of water!

There is not as much rubbish as usual by Morrisons, schoolkids on holiday so they are not chucking their rubbish on their way to school plus the faster flow of water washes it down stream.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

a total of 20 volunteers turned up for the first weekend river clean, amongst the finds were a second world war helmet and an eel that found it's way into a refuse sack.

even more interesting is this summing up from paul s.
We had 21 volunteers today who turned out on a Sunday for the first time, and who managed to collect a staggering amount of litter from the Dour.
This included 60 bags of general litter, furry dice, car radio, driving licence, traffic cones, cycle frame, half a fishing rod and a hunting knife, oh also a steak knife.
The most interesting find was a WW2 British Army issue helmet. A little mangled but intact. This was found in the section of river next to Halfords.
