just watched "king kong" on a bbc channel, laughable acting and plot by today's standards but bearing in mind it was made about 80 years ago a classic.
i have seen the remake and it had great production values but not the impact on the consciousness as the original.

Yea Howard, I plumped for Paul, but that King Kong is the bees knees, very atmospheric.

I used to watch the Hammer Horror films whilst babysitting, forgetting that I had to pass the local churchyards on the way home. I could have won Olympic Gold for my sprinting!
I had the same feeling after watching An American Werewolf in London and then calling into the Carpenters Arms in Coldred on the way home from the cinema for the first time. Twas a very brisk walk home constantly checking over my shoulder. Anyone ever heard a sheep cough in the dark ?

I've been in The Carpenters Arms a couple of times when strangers have come in and asked for two pints of lager - the response as the locals chuckle at a request for lager and the strangers wonder what they've walked in to always reminds me of the remote pub scene from that film.

i can picture the scene at the carpenter's arms, the landlord looking deep into the distance as he says "we want no trouble here, this is a local pub for local people" followed by a veiled threat about "strange happenings".

Are you local?
Well worth a visit on All Hallows Eve Howard, take a shortcut home through Waldershare Park encountering the ghostly horseman or the phantom lady who perished on Malmains land and you will ask yourself if the Real Ale was more potent than you thought!
