19:4193046I think it will go ahead Howard. I get the Birmingham train when I visit my son in Oxfordshire getting off at Banbury, it is always packed with businessmen so there are a lot who will support a really fast train.

20:4193060It needs to go ahead as it's just the first stage of a line that will eventually go to Manchester and Scotland. The UK is way behind the rest of the major industrialised countries in this respect and needs to catch up to stay economically competitive.

20:4493061Yes, but a lot of the people from those constituencies are the ones who want the fast train as they work in London. You should see all the expensive cars in the Bicester station carpark.

21:0393063yes ray, you are right about the economic importance of the line, jan is right too about about the commuting.
the problem is that middle england like the idyllic lifestyle away from work and much more importantly are very aware of property prices.
my prediction stands.

00:1993090Important or not, this HS2 project will be kicked into the long grass for ten years or more on grounds of unaffordability. Unfortunately property markets along the route will be blighted for years, remember what happened with HS1?
