where were the chairs in market square for the morning for wedding
where was the bunting , union jack flags ( anyone been to tenterden in last week ? from start of town to end , every shop , pub has bunting )in castle or biggin street
today has done our chances of getting the ompyic torch through dover down to zero
will now go by eurostar i guess
last year we had no money as the mp was using a tiny amount for expenses , this year why not spend some on dover ?
Not a monarchist by any stretch, but if only for the tourism we should have made a show - as far as I am concerned the royal family is there mainly for that reason...........
Good for you, Jeanette at the White Horse!!

One of my earliest memories is of the coronation party on Melbourne Avenue, and we helped organise a great party for the Silver Jubilee in Tower Hamlets that our kids went to.
So maybe for those (not all) disappointed with today's turnout it's now time to start thinking about planning for next year's Diamond Jubilee (assuming there's no state funeral before then

) and make it a good one.
What is wrong with our council the cruse liner thats in port had a fleet of coaches 30 in all taking them all to London as Ron said if this town had the presents of mind to splash out we may have had some real money spent in Dover when they come back, But not Dover yet is spending money with KCC and the BBC to make this film Dovertime to be shown on the big screen in market square in September. Its time to remove all of the old dead wood and get some new in with get up and go. our councilors have been serving on and of for years and they know how to use the system to there beneficial gain.

Alan I am so much in agreement with what you say, I have been saying for some time that some members of the council are well past their sell by dates. It is time we had councillors with some get up and go, most of the current lot the get up and go has sat down and died.
I shudder at the thought of the Tories gaining overall control again, it will be the absolute finish of Dover, I voted Tory last time but never, ever again.

I guess I am a royalist because at the end of the day the royal family are one of the the last bastions of true Britishness. Without out them this island upon which we live would just be another colouress, crap republic. Perish the thought. Oh and well done Jeanette for flying the flag. Tenterden's Dickension atmosphere was really brought out by their wonderful show!
Never give up...

I doubt it will make that much difference who gets in, they will still claim there is no money in the pot to do anything that might actually change the miserable or should I say depressingly dull Market Square.

Do you have any particular Councllors in mind Alan and Dave1 ?
What exactly is it that causes you both so much concern ?
Services have inceases, including bus and waste; council tax has been kept very low, the budgets (despite John Goodwin's claims to the contrary) have been balanced.
Successful lobbying brought the High Speed train, now the high speed train to Deal and Sandwich.
The streets in Town are swept on a daily basis (admittedly sometimes you wouldn't know it by the amount of litter the public drop).
How much power do you think the Council has ?

I live in the Town and my street is not swept weekly (more like monthly) never mind daily, then it is fairly useless as the road is full of parked cars so the sweeper just drives up the middle for most of the road.

It is a shame Dover dragged its heels, our Community Centre sent out newsletters to the Clarendon and Westbury area asking if they would like to help us run a street party , sadly we did not get any replies or offers of help, so they missed out, no community spirit anymore

With regard to the cruise-liners not coming into Dover, that has nothing to do with whether we had any bunting up or not, or chairs organised round the market Square, as the cruise-passengers book their day-excursions long before the ships arrives here. They are very heavily sold and make a lot of money for the cruise-companies.
Until some one is paid to support the Town and Business, it won't change; there needs to be a central person to do these things and a very necessary "CAN DO" attitude.
Sponsorship from the Town Council and the District and the important stake-holders in Dover, need to realise that membership alone of a "body" cannot pay that persons salary.
Dover will move forward when this is done, until then, nothing will change.
I have been working for businesses off and on, unpaid and paid for around 5 or 6 years and I know what needs to be done.
Dover Loyalty Scheme, Discover Dover, Dover Chamber of Commerce and now Channel Chamber of Commerce - some paid, some not, but they all failed (apart from the Channel Chamber job) because there was insufficient (or no) support.
Dover can move forward, but not until the right person is in the right job and it's a paid one.

on one post you point out the need for a tory administration
on this one you say councils have such little power it won't make any difference.
the things you quote has been a combination of lot's of people lobbying for, so these achievments had little to do with a conservative administration.
may 5th wil thankfully be the end of this conservative administration roll on may the 5th

The Premier Inn had a street party in their carpark but it didnt seem to take off. Some stalls and face painting and bunting, but no visitors to speak of. In comparison to last weekend visitor numbers appear to be down a long way.

Those of you who are moaning what did you do to celebrate the occasion .I did my bit with flags and bunting .Several people asked me why did i not organise an event .My street parties and villahe parties are well known .This time I could not do anything as it is election time .If I had worked tirelessly as i have done in the past the old opposition wpould have said I was touting for votes .You are in a no win situation.
If DDC had spent money on an event the cry would have gone up can afford this that and the other but my street needs cleaning .
The only thing I did not do was walk up and down with my hast on
We had street parties going on out here in River and lots of flags flying .

a bit of unabashed electioneering there, the improved buses are nothing to do with d.d.c. the waste sercice is the same as before, many streets are swept on an irregular basis and the balanced budget is a subject of much discussion and interpretation.
