the problem is that it is the worse off that are being hit by the austerity measures and the debt seems not to be reducing.

Sadly that does seem to be the case - on both points.

£34, don't totally agree, Howard, red supporters have always been more tribal than the blues (pause to don tin helmet!) and more likely to return to the fold.

The big election policy's will be immigration economy utility bills and ,,cost of living
For the first time ,people cannot afford not to vote,
The selling of utility's will one day destroy the conservative party, they will get all the blame for unaffordable prices.

Surprised you left Europe off the list, KeithB. It's not the same issue as immigration. But I think it will be number 1 issue come general election time. The economy will still be on the up, people will realise that living standards must eventually go the same way as long as the two Eds aren't allowed to get their hands on the destruct buttons again, and the utility companies will toe the line for fear of getting their worst nightmare i.e. a labour government.

Too much spare capacity in the economy for inflation to take hold before 2017 in my opinion. More immigration will keep pace with job creation, keeping unemployment above 7%.

Jan,

brilliant. Let's think of the forum as a Muppet Show episode. I can place a good many characters (Howard as Kermit perhaps) but I can't think of any double act to play Statler and Waldorf. Can you?

There must be a good number of posters who could be called a muppet; me included I'm sure, by some.
