Howard - early birds catch the worm.... extraordinary success is achieved by extraordinary people doing extraordinary things.... The most successful business people are active when you are all tucked up and cosy in bed.....

X rated howard>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
except Fridays that is, I am doing good business at 6am then.
Barry - I am up at 4am most days and put in a full and long day doing many various things, some of which are visibly productive and some of which have longer term views and are investments. You need to understand that I have not been critical of YOU, but of the general malaise which is clear in Dover.....I am sure you are right, there are many peope doing their best under challenging times, but it is also clear that many of the people managing the town for us are failing - in whatever way, there is still a failure. I do not whinge, I raise legitimate issues, and your use of trivialising words will not undermine that. Now, get over it, for goodness sake, and lets have a proper discussion.

Bern. You have qualified what you said about businesses and likewise was not critical of you but of the sweeping statement you made.
Business people of course manage their own business in the interests of their businesses, not Dover. Ultimately Dover needs profitable businesses, not failures so that is right.
The point you make about the management of Dover is a fair but an arguable one and on which I have a different viewpoint. You hear comments such as yours in the pub every night and indeed 30 years ago I was saying very similar things, nothing changes. I got elected and served 12 years on DDC when I found I did not have all the answers and things were more complex and difficult than the 'man in the pub' imagines. I did try to make a difference in my time and believe I did and that is all you can expect of any councillor. Generations change and always the 'man in the pub' will know how to do things better, few of them actually put themselves in the firing line and only when you do does reality bite. At least there are many that try, for which we should be thankful, because it can be often a thankless task with all the sniping and everyone else knowing better than you...That never changes.
I respect what you say, but need to qualify again with my own experience of government, local authorities and large organisations - issues are always more complex than people realise, but a great deal of the "sniping" (I take issue with the perjorative terms) can be reduced by effective communication: when people feel involved and included, informed and heard, the complaints reduce, always. That does not happen locally, and is a huge disadvantage. And it also causes me to question the skills of the people trusted to run the place.

effective communication is what i am always banging on about on here.
we sometimes get great events going on, but no-one tells us.
when a decision is made at town and district level, we do not know why, so inevitably we complain about it.
if we were informed of the whys and wherefores, we would be more likely to understand the reason for the decision.
someone has posted on here about demolition work planned for next month, no details were given, so i checked the ddc
website, nothing there.

I agree about the lack of communication - on everything, from up and coming events to the demolition of the Stagecoach building and everything in between.
DDC have a guy who sounds out official Council news, but the vast majority (I seem to remember) is about what went on, not about things going on.
Nigel used to have a saying on the bottom of his postings "good communication builds teamwork"; it builds much more than that - it creates awareness and understanding.
Roger
Howard - the faces are for whenI am uncharacteristically lost for words!!!! And those particular faces mean "for goodness sake, will the councils never learn about decent, honest, meaningful communication and how effective it can be in promoting a cohesive and progressive town."

OH dear now BAZ goes fo another
BERN keep posting, your views are valued, and as you say its about open debate.
BAZ hs very tunneled vision which is a great shame as he has a lot to offer, I THINK he forgets this is a forum made up of many man different expertese, but more importantly people share views.
I'm pleased paulb has got involved this time as its not before time, in all these discussions if BAZ decides to attack and put people down all that will happen is that people won't post, im hearing that already.
But clearly BAZ feels above us all, a simple apology yesterday would have have moved us on
it takes little to write SORRY but there you go
Won't post??? Bring it on!!!!!!

There you go again Keith. There is a name for those who like stirring it....
There really was no need for Bern to apologise to the local business community and no more than you need to apologise for your stirring. Everyone knows what you are like keith.
Lads - let's move quietly on. And I didn't apologise, I clarified........
