Business confidence in Dover must be high when Next close a store in Folkestone in order to open here.

Parking is still free.

The free parking is a bit of a double-edged sword with people mostly filling it all up before 9 am not leaving many spaces left for shoppers. Additionally DDC are losing a lot of parking revenue particularly in Stembrook.

Indeed, Howard. I walked down before 9am today and there was hardly a free parking space to be seen. Yet M&S was virtually deserted and not a great deal appeared to be happening when I meandered past the other outlets. Workers availing themselves of a free opportunity, perhaps?

Not forgetting the Travelodge guests too Ray, I notice the parking wardens have been very active around town recently now there are not so many chances to catch someone overstaying in Stembrook.

Apart from a camera and an intercom on the entrance and exit there are as yet no devices for charging. No machine to issue tickets or take coins. I wonder when they will arrive.

Not DDC Keith, the site owners/operators. Saw two ticket machines earlier, one in front of the cinema and the other to the side of Costa.

There’s another by the corner of M&S. They’ve all been there since it opened but with signs on, indicating not yet in use.

A brief conversation with a staff member of the parking company a couple of weeks ago revealed the information that they are waiting for the software for the system that operates the machines and barriers to be installed.

I asked the staff up at Whitfield about this a few weeks ago and was told they will be in by Christmas and the shop will probably focus on food items.

B&M at Whitfield apparently cannot sell alcohol as Tesco objected when they applied for a licence. Clearly Lidl had no problem!
