the granville dock seems to be taking most.
any spare space is being utilised.
the owner of this one must have upset someone on high, his boat is being tortured.

At the PCC meeting they did say that the boat owners are being offered a 25% discount on the price for lifting their boats so a good time for them to do any work needed. Terry Sutton also reminded everyone that, once drained, there will be a revolting smell coming from dock and DHB did say that they were warning the businesses about this. It was good to hear that they will be working with the River Dour Steering Group to get the culvert cleared of rubbish while this essential work is going on.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

That will make an almighty pen & ink which the prevailing wind will spread all over town.

Here are a couple of before and after pictures of the Dock as it stands today and previously....
Above in the glorious highly colourful summer weather of a few weeks back..packed with boats.
And yesterday the same location in the altogether gloomier conditions. Hardly a boat to break the gloom.

Wellington Dock on a previous occasion on which it was emptied, a few decades ago.

Thank you....

Getting there ..... One thing springs to mind tho'. Will there be much of a smell?. Clearly this is the best time of the year to do it, but I'm wondering if anyone has recollections from previous drainings.
(added later - when raising this point I failed to notice the above post by Chris).
Hi Alan
Further to our conversation this morning I can confirm that you are able to film the dismantling of the Wellington Dock gates for your video club. I understand that a copy of the video will be shown at your club night and a copy will go to Dover Museum. The filming is scheduled to begin on 15th November and you will be filming from the car park by the Marina Office. (only one or two people)
I would be grateful if you could confirm the above to me by e mail and let me know when you start filming so I can inform Port of Dover Police and the Marina Office.
i would like to thank DHB for there kind permission in allowing us to film this operation. and a poster asked if there was a smell the last time this was done I don't recall one.one of our senior members of dover camcorder club did film this the last time it was done this on video we are now going to do it on HD Thank you again DHB .

A friend has reminded me of one treasure that might come to light. It is a brass latter 'C' from the stern of the cross-channel ferry Canterbury (1929-64). As she was being towed out of the Wellington for scrapping in Belgium on 30th July 1965, a hawser from one of the tugs dragged across her stern catching the letter which flew into the air landing with a great splash in the dock.

Hopefully there will be some interesting finds amongst the debris at the base of Wellington Dock.
