I heard today from a source inside Southeastern that it will be open on 4 or 5 September.

I have also heard it will open in September but was told towards the end of the month.
I hope Andrew's contact is better informed than mine.

The National Rail website is hinting at late October but no doubt that can change. The continued fine weather must be helping.

Will there be any trains running then to use it. ?

It won't be as early as the 4th or 5th as that is less than a month away and under DfT rules train operators must give 1 months notice of changes to the timetable.
I am however expecting an announcement in the next 5-10 days with the line re-opening mid September

Would it be classified as timetable change, as the route was suspended?

Yes it will - I have had this conversation with both senior Network Rail managers and Southeastern Operations Managers

Having said this many times before and I hope I am wrong ,I worked all along this line from Folkestone to Dover and still think at some point in time this line will close all the tunnels are what is called wet tunnels that means sun or rain water is coming down and up from the sea and the chalk from the cliffs. and the line also could at anytime have a cliff fall down on it .Lets hope that is many years ahead but it will happen like it did over 100years ago the fence they have put up is not going to hold it back.

Any scheduling changes would have already been submitted. The current revised schedule was implemented within days. I agree with Vic though, eventually this section will probably close. DDC clearly recognise this as they are supporting a new station at Whitfield which will probably use the Aylesham route and then possibly join over to the Canterbury West line.

So let's get this right then.
Having spent £44 million rebuilding the line between Dover and Folkestone the 'investment' is written off by closing the line and
1. Building a brand new station somewhere near Guston to serve a couple of thousand people living some distance away in Whitfield.
2. Spend money on upgrading Kearsney Loop as well as putting in a complete new connection with points and necessary signalling between Canterbury West and Canterbury East lines.
3. Requiring separate trains to connect Folkestone and Dover to London Terminals including HST from St Pancras.
4. Either stopping HST service to Dover if using Kearsney loop OR doubling up services to cover both Dover and Deal OR requiring Deal/Sandwich HST to visit Dover before driver changes ends and takes train to St P via new connection west of C'bury ALL reducing both financial viability of service we have finally got and USP of train i.e. that it is errrrrr 'high speed'.
The mere fact that any of this is supported by DDC should indicate the lunacy of the plans.

Jack that was an emergency timetable and is permitted under DfT rules.
My understanding is that it is only in the last fortnight that Southeastern have reached agreement with their works council over the schedule etc for when the line re-opens.
The major issue with the line to Folkestone is the clay layer under the track bed at The Warren which is causing the track bed to slide, whilst remedial work was carried out last year, all parties accept that this will only temporarily mitigate the problem, As for the catch fencing, this is the same stuff they use in the Alps so perhaps it will hold if there is a chalk fall...

That fence would not hold back a 100ton of chalk or more,

Ross (as usual) is correct on the problems at the Warren.
Perhaps it is time to realise that the country which gave railways to the world and was the birthplace of such as Brunel is no longer up to engineering a line of 70 odd miles between its Capital and its premier passenger port over such perilous terrain.
Just as the country which developed nuclear power is no longer able to build a nuclear power station is it about time to call in Johnny Chinaman to bail us out?
I honestly despair!
