the poster there extolls the virtues of dover pride and the artistic fraternity.
the problem is that all three windows are empty.

20:5492533Many people have passed the opinion that Dover Pride is an oxymoron.

08:2392554Dover Pride is a partnership of business, local and regional organisations and the people of Dover. Their aim is to make the town a great place to live, work and visit.
The partnership aims to support the long term improvement and regeneration of Dover and renew a sense of pride in our community.

09:1292557Nice long list there Roger but from Howard's picture the building frontage does nothing to promote a feeling of pride in Dover.

09:4292560Roger I think that is probably over-selling the achievements of Dover Pride..
I see for example that listed amongst the achievements is the Sea Sports Centre. Would love to know what role they played in that. As far as i am aware it would have been a near neglible input if any, but to put it down as one of their 'projects completed' could give the wrong impression. A very big wrong impression.
Howard shows the frontage in the pic above there just the town side of the underpass. And it started off with optimism but the exhibits seemed to get more and more obscure and now there arent any at all. It now looks sad. It would be nice if it could be used showing paintings of Dover both new and old...a permanent exhibition, rather than the obscure arty farty stuff that visitors can see everywhere and anywhere.

10:5192569with all that list of agences how can anyone know who has done the most?
the old indoor market is "dover pride" and is bare.

11:2492572I'll let them have some of my paintings! Even my very worst would brighten the place up. Seriously, why not use the windows as a gallery for anyone who wants to contribute? Even in my limited circle I know of four people who paint.

14:0392583The police also know of a whole load of young people who are just itching to unleash their artistic talents on the building.
Perhaps we should let them?
PG.

Been nice knowing you :)

15:2292587Not to be too picky here but of that list of partners, DTC is only allowed one attendee and they are appointed to it by Dover Pride, SEEDA and the PCT are being phased out and the CoC is hardly in the best of shape. This leaves the loudest voices as EH, DHB and DDC so the last grant obtained was spent on the seafront and the castle. All of the "art" projects have expected major funding from DTC and yet not used Dover artists. The station approach has been on the plans for more years than DP has been in existance.
On their performance so far do they hope to "transform community aspirations" by getting us used to graffiti and charity shops?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

15:3792588that seems to sum it up nicely, on a brighter note a couple of people went in earlier with pots of paint.

16:0592590Out of 19 directors (why do they need 19???) three are from the private sector. IMHO that balance should be reversed, then we might get somewhere. An initiative such as this needs doers, not placemen.
19 directors is the same number as HSBC has.

16:2592591Reading between the lines I am beginning to wonder are they a waste of time and a body that could be dismantled without too much loss. This is the first I have ever heard about this quango.

17:2292596Dover Pride set out a booklet of their aspirations which feature a cable car nobody wants and a DTIZ dominated by a supermarket in a town already overburdened with them. Most of the other 'developments' are led by their own developers and do not really have a need of DP's lip-service. The river Dour has it's own steering group. Altogether the money going into Dover Pride would be far better spent providing visitor 'attractions' such as (dare I say it?) public toilets.

17:3792598The last published minutes of DP board meetings are two years old. There are no accounts available on their website. The board membership has 'conflict of interest' written all over it. Who funds it and what is the money spent on?
Obviously we, the taxpayers, fund it, I mean who writes the cheques?

19:4892617Trouble is they have 19 board members - which is about 18 more than they have active staff
