I am not totally reassured by the statement.
I quote....... " there has been no decision made to close Dover Police Station"...... which is not the same as 'we are definitely not closing', does this mean closure has been or is still under discussion.

I reproduce Post 20 again here as the first posting has now slipped onto the previous page rather quickly.
Just in directly from the Police themselves... directly related to this thread.
Many thanks to them.

Hello Paul, please could you put the following on your Forum re: the comments about Dover police station closing......
Chief Inspector KEN ELMES said:
"Dover Police Station is not closing as the writers on this Forum seem to be speculating. As with any large organisation faced with having to downsize, Kent Police will continually examine how we use our estate to make sure that it is cost-effective and the best use of public funds.
"However, I can reassure the community of Dover that there has been no decision made to close Dover Police Station. The custody area has been closed as we have more prisoner capacity around the county than we need and Dover and Sittingbourne were two of our older custody suites."

There is an old saying that a rumour should never be believed until it has been confirmed by an official denial.

Have released this topic now. Locked it on top of the page so that all can see the direct info re Police station.
We have had wild but sadly inaccurate speculation before. I remember one time following a motorcycle accident on the seafront ..about a year or so ago, some of you will remember Im sure... rumours and whispers circulated that the young chap was dead. Number of posts on here stated same, but it wasnt true. That time it was confirmed to me also by the Police that the young man was very much alive, although injured. His family emailed me as they had seen the thread....so these things can be delicate.
Its good to get the official situation through.
Those chinese whispers can be devastating. Facebook doesn't help - a while back there was some violence in Dover and facebook went nuts with speculation similar to the motorbike stuff PaulB mentions above - claiming firearms were used, people were dead etc etc. Mostly untrue and very unhelpful.

The problem arises when people state a rumour as fact, I always say 'could be a rumour' when posting unless I know for sure.

Chief Inspector KEN ELMES Its just like i said it would be,you have closed the custody area,Dover was one of two of you older custody suites." Effectively you have closed the hart of the station so why spend money on the renovation of that station.
You now have to transport people to Canterbury or Folkestone at a more higher cost in transport and fuel usage and were and tear on your Vehicles also putting the families in further hardship if they have to visit someone in your cells.
you are also moving officers from Dover to The two aforementioned places.
Dover is to big not to have a fully staffed or working police station,
This will close and become an add min center or it will be sold off for something else.
Kent police is the most inept force in the country you cant even police Dover as it is using more PCSO to do the jobs local bobbies should be doing like clearing the drinkers from the town center this will get worse as Christmas approaches the riding of bikes in the precinct.
you don't police this as it is you only have to read this forum to get a good idea of what i am talking about, your PCSO might talk to these people but as soon as they have gone there back on there bikes again.
Please don't be like our Politicians that lie to the people of this town tell the truth after all you are the ones we look up to withhold the law. Ps if Dover dose close do we the people get a rebate on the money each household pays to the police Authority for not have a police station.

a number of comments have come out an are very interesting,
let me comment on a few;
we are right to want to know about our police station and at the moment we are told there are no plans to close the police station so we have to believe it.
on the question of P.C.S.O.s it will come as no surprize to alan taylor that i disagree with his comments, if he was true to his beliefs he would be far more even handed with his approach to policing, whilst everyone wants more police, in reality the police have to cut there cloth no different to any other organisation, now we could argue about how the police spend there budgets, but to reflect this on the role of a P.C.S.O. is a tad unfair.
on the question of n/hood policing, im sure mr elms or others may add further but n/hood policing is a good move forward getting policing into the local communities, these can range from P.C..S.O's to PC's and more.
it has shown that past policing which we all complained about of police riding around in cars had to change(reactive policing) and instead a more pro active working with communities moved towards.
