Services are already split between Folkestone and Dover - majority of late evening response cars are based at Folkestone

if services are being split between dover and folkestone they would presumably still need a police station here.
a lot of flak flying around today between kent police and the police federation over manning(sorry barry i meant personing).
the former say that they are putting more officers on the street than ever by moving them from back office work while the federation are of the opinion that it is just changing around officers that are already front line.

For the first time in many weeks I saw two policemen walking past the shop this morning,it was not my usual work day so maybe on Monday they patrol Dover.

As I understood it (from the Assistant Chief Constable - so not a bad source) all that was happening was that the custody facilities will be moved to Folkestone. Those that get arrested will have further to walk home in the mornings.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

This is an e-mail that has gone to Charlie. I can not revile the persons name at this time as his job could be at risk.
Charlie sorry to bother you yet again, although I am still hoping for a reply re hospital parking charges it has come to my notice through a very reliable person that after all the money that has been spent renovating the Dover police station that the Kent police authority are at present redeploying police officers to other stations in Kent with the outlook to shutting Dover police station in the near future??????????????????
is this yet another nail in the coffin of Dover????????????
when I say shutting I suppose they may use it for admin staff etc but it will cease to exist as an active police station. surely even if it is closed at nights/weekends it is only right to expect it to close at some point.
can you ask the Kent police to confirm or reject this please.
Dover has already lost its hospital and please do not quote the bull the EKHT keep telling gullible people as what they intend to replace it with its by absolutely NO comparison to a hospital, it is a walk-in clinic and soon it will change to appointments only and due to the fact that they do not have the facilities of a hospital they will not be able to cope, and emergency will fall to the over worked ambulance service to try and cope with as there will be a very substantial rise in ambulance calls, and what if it is what they may call a minor injury? say a deep cut etc will people be expected to wait till next day and hope they can just walk-in to the clinic and probably have a receptionist tell them that they cannot cope and they will have to fined their own way to Ashford, Canterbury or Margate perhaps? NO there is no PERHAPS it will happen.
and now the same at Dover police station?????????????
Dover has been totally neglected in resent years and is fast falling into a slum area with little or no amenities for residents and nothing to offer other than a drive-through to the ferry ports, this town was the mainstay of Britain throughout two world wars but now its not needed any more it is being disregarded for everything, its no good talking about bringing shops into Dover like Morrison's and Asda because the residents wont have any work soon to buy things in them you cannot expect to built this town up with just private money we need the government to step up as well and start investing heavily here and very very soon.
this is a fast dying town and a fast dying community, Dover should have been the first town in Britain to receive a ROYAL to its name, it is still the gateway to Britain regardless of airports but even then the towns around the airports are strongly supported so why isn't Dover it serves the same purpose of bringing in visitors and with them money for our economy as well as all the freight for import/export I doubt very much if there is another port entry/exit point that is more influential than Dover.
so for many reason it deserves and the people deserve more investment and support from the government NOW.

Dover is not the property of Mrs. Windsor, so we don't need a "royal" to the name Dover.

i have taken the liberty of putting your post into paragraphs so it is more easily readable.
a lot of very good points raised there so it is important that they can be accessed easily.

i don't think that it need be that slow, if the letters are sent to landlords as per the request from town councillor pat sherratt, eperience shows that the buildings are improved very quickly.
Exactly Howard , its no good not using the powers the council has at its disposal and then expecting people to be greatful that 3 buisnesses look nice .

I wrote to the owners of the building where the Best Kebab is, at the beginning of Cannon Street when I was Dover Business Support Manager. I was sacked before I could follow it up.
Pat is trying now as a Town Councillor, Sue Jones brought it up at full Council, I had worked on it a couple of years ago; if Pat can get DDC to pick it up, then good luck to him, I wish him well.
I had photographed all the buildings in the Town Centre that needed working on/refurbishing and was going to visit them to determine if they were the owners or just tenants.
It would have been all part of the job of Dover Business Support - supporting the Town and the businesses.

Hello Paul, please could you put the following on your Forum re: the comments about Dover police station closing......
Chief Inspector KEN ELMES said:
"Dover Police Station is not closing as the writers on this Forum seem to be speculating. As with any large organisation faced with having to downsize, Kent Police will continually examine how we use our estate to make sure that it is cost-effective and the best use of public funds.
"However, I can reassure the community of Dover that there has been no decision made to close Dover Police Station. The custody area has been closed as we have more prisoner capacity around the county than we need and Dover and Sittingbourne were two of our older custody suites."
