Dover was part of a double page feature (along with Folkestone) in the Evening Standard Homes and Property section today. All really good positive stuff about the town and its surrounds and the advantages of high speed rail etc. some nice photos of the sea front, castle and market square.
Lets hope that it raises some interest from outsiders in the town

Thats good to hear, a bit of the right kind of publicity as generally I suspect Dover does not have an engaging image further afield, but positive features could certainly help to reverse that. Perhaps with the hi speed train the opportunity is there now to commute so property values here will appear low to Londoners. Could push property prices up for us straw chewing local yokels though.

Was that from a local estate agent Ross, a London one or maybe a number getting together ?
We have some very good areas and some lovely places here, but Dover's town centre does need smartening up - buildings, shops (closed and open), chewing gum, litter etc. etc.
The hanging baskets look good though - well done DTC.
With DBS now being part-time and the businesses having no confidence in the Chamber, it's difficult to see what that body can achieve for the Town.
Maybe it's all down to DTC and DDC working together.
With all those new members Spencer has signed up, the bank account at the Chamber must be looking pretty healthy, but is the Town getting value for money ?
Being promoted in London is very good and very necessary, but we must put on a good face and that means working on the Town Centre.

Hi Roger, it is a regular weekly supplement in the Evening Standard the piece was written by David Spittles who as far as I can see is a property journalist

I saw the piece in the Standard too, Roger. Good guff, sorry, stuff.
However, all the 'regeneration coming soon' spiel might sound tempting to Londoners, but is likely to trigger yet more 'yeah, yeah, yeah, whatevers' from us weary Dovorians until we see some action.
It remains, once again, a case of all fur coat and no knickers until the first foundation stones are laid and the wrecking balls finally smash Burlington House and its disgusting environs into much-deserved smithereens.

I agree Andrew - about the future regeneration, but I still maintain that the Town itself could be helped a lot - now.
Without encouraging a "here he goes again" set of comments, when I was the DBS Manager, I was half way through creating a proper "Plan of Action" as regards the Town's rejuvination.
It was developing into a good document that would have been used to apply for funding from various bodies.
It was incorporating all the 23 initiatives/projects I had created during last year in the lead-up to the launch of DBS in November.
Needless to say that when Cameron MacSween and Alan Shirley sacked me in March, all that stopped.
I have no idea what Spencer is doing now - he only works part-time as the Chamber of Commerce have down-graded the job to a part-time one (what an insult to Dover and all those who live here) and obviously on part-time money.
I don't know if the Town and District Councils know this though, but they have granted money on the fact that the salary was £24,000, not just £9,500 (which is exactly what the Town Council donated).
So much to do and no one to do it.

There aren't any applications in either, so gawd knows when they'll be available.

Forgive my ignorance Sid - what's a 419 ?
Paul - Maybe the (relatively) new owners up there are working on a plan for residential properties on the Western Heights ?
I heard there are people with lots of money ready to invest here, but I guess timing is everything.
We need investment and I'm sure those doing the investing, will get a good return on their money, but no one should be able or allowed to ride rough-shod over existing laws - ie the Schedule Ancient Monument area, that we have on the Western Heights.

Roger,This would help the Ancient Monument area, they said some time ago that the investment would put funds into just doing that, lets hope it happens Dover needs it.
A 419 is a scam Roger.

Agreed Dover and the Western Heights need the investment, but the right sort of money. I will post a map later of the land ownership. Most of on the skyline and detrimental to the Heights. The land around Knights Templar/Citadel Heights possibly, but nothing to the scale they are promoting !

Found the documentation I was after
http://www.commercialgroupproperties.plc.uk/Research_Note_CGP.pdf
It is a massive stretch of land that they own, a lot of it greenbelt/farmland so shouldn't be allocated for housing in any way!!
Been nice knowing you :)
Methinks there will be plenty of Whitfield residents who will disagree with you Paul!

Thanks Paul
I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
I know Ken owns the Great Thatched Barn at Farthingloe in Folkestone Road (obviously I guess, after reading that info.) and hopes/intends to develop it further.
The information is now 3 years old, do you know if they have made any progress ? I have an idea that an application is being worked on, but no details.
As I'm on Planning, I won't say anything.

The only progress is the land being 'sold' to other companies in the group....
