Not heard anymore on this, I remember Charlie had a meeting with concerned patients and that was that so we don't know how other surgeries will be able to cope with the extra workload.

Not much action from our politicos on this one, 3650 patients will be looking for a new GP.

I understand the place is being handed over to another practice. No need for anyone to panic.

Not sure what you mean Peter, is there a building set aside to house the GP's from the health centre?

I think closing it down was part of the agreement to get the new hospital built.

That doesn't sound right, Charlie actively campaigned for the new hospital and when the closure of the health centre was announced he was the first to demand that the powers that be ensure that patients had a GP.

Isn't it just the one GP practice closing, not the Health Centre?

I keep hearing conflicting stories so have E mailed Concordia health for their side of things.

I would like to confirm that NHS England has taken the decision to de-commission Dover Medical Practice. The surgery will therefore close on the 30th November 2014. As the Dover Medical Practice is closing, patients will be required to re-register with another GP practice. NHS England has sent a letter to all patients explaining the decision, with a list of all the relevant practices in Dover, including addresses and contact details.
The Health Centre itself is NOT closing. Dover Medical Practice is one of, at present two GP surgeries within the building. The NHS England decision applies only to the DMP. Any patients wishing to continue visiting the Health Centre to see a GP may do so by registering with Pencester Health, located inside the Health Centre on the first floor.
I hope this clarifies the current situation.

Seems many/ some will be joining my group of doctors upstairs, I hope they can keep up the high standard of care I get at the moment if they get a whole load of new patients.

That is assuming the information is correct, a pseudonym with no indication where the information came from doesn't inspire confidence.

So it begs the question why is the practice being shut down by NHS England?

The thing I can not understand is why Concordia Health Limited have not sold the practice on if they do not want to keep it open. I can't help but feel there is something we are not being told maybe they want the area for something else.

We are being kept in the dark over this one, two questions to add to the mix.
A) If Charlie is protesting it must mean he has had no response from the Health Secretary.
B) When ATOS pulled the plug they had to pay hefty compensation but Concordia are apparently not.

It is my understanding that NHS England has a contract with a company which provides interpreters, with the service available to all practices, locally and nationwide. Whilst individual practices would be responsible for individual bookings the 'bill' is paid by NHS England. I may be mistaken, but if I'm not then to me it would not make sense for the pull-out reason to be based on interpeter costs as the need for the service will follow the patient wherever they go to for care.
