Dover Express proudly states on the front page "Local news all day every day",but i,ve been noticing that it hasnt been all that local for quite some time and it seems to me to be getting less local, week after week.In this weeks for example, news of drink drivers arrested in Ashford,The story of a councillor from Romney marsh,A pub struggling to survive in Shepway,A burglary at a Hythe cafe,A hotel in breach of planning in Folkestone,A thug convicted of robbing a post office in St Marys bay,etc etc etc.Seems to be a few more snipets of Shepway news creeping in each week.Is there so little to report that we have to read news that should be for the Folkestone herald?Has anyone else noticed this?

Local news always suffers over the festive period with nothing much to report so stories are shared over the East Kent papers.
Where I moved from had a population of 300, 000 and one local paper. Dover has around a tenth of that amount with two local papers, frankly amazes me how they keep going.

Hi Andy. Every year we have three editions over Christmas where we have to share more pages with other papers - basically so the sub editors and ad sales guys have time to see their families. Normal service is resumed on Thursday. Best

There is still a lot could be done to bring it back to what it was years ago a real Dover paper, first thing is to reopen a office in the town even if it was only for 3 days a week so local folk could walk in.

It is a pity that neither have an office in Dover, we used to see journos such as Graham Tutthill and others around the town during the day and if anyone had anything interesting they would alert the scribe to the story.

Although not normally a Dover Express-knocker, it has been noticeable in the last few weeks that the Dover Express has a lot more Folkestone and Deal content.

Have noticed it too for a while now, and the level of literacy is getting even lower. Today's front page"Police lay siege to armed officers" does anybody now how to read at the paper?

I saw that headline and done a double take, their proof reader must be on holiday. The Dover Express website seems to cover all of Kent now.

No Dubris Column now no reporters going out to find news just sit at a laptop waiting to see what comes up ,the paper is rubbish now and with no local office to walk into .They do not turnout anymore to p/council meetings. and you pay 90p a week for it.

The national press is hardly any better, the Daily Mail publishes stuff from local newspapers that the group own and then supplement it with stuff on social media.

The Folkestone fc forum has similar complaints about the Herald.

I just read them for free online, the best one in my view is the Independent who have now stopped doing a printed copy. That is the future and advertising will pay for it.

Phil Hayes (who was mostly responsible for Dubris) has left the Express stable.
I wonder who he will be working for now? (I promised not to say so I'll leave it for someone else to surprise you all!)
Meanwhile the office of the EKM on Queen Street Deal has been renamed Malory Towers (see photograph below of staff training day, Dover Castle in background)

Going by their awful use of the English language I do not think they have had a proof reader for a very long time, it is a case of bang it out and stick it on the internet.

I don't have a problem with their Internet stuff as it just designed to get hits which please the advertisers but the newspaper should be more professional.
