It is appalling but unsurprising. If I was managing that lot I would make an example of one of them. Disciplinaries are there to be used!
I have emailed the rail company with a link to this thread and a few choice comments.......
If and when Southeastern get around to seeing this thread, it is important to say that JHG does a grand job!!!! He is not the problem!!!

Well done
''Keeping Dovers station clean is our Priority''..ouch but a good catch phrase/slogan for Southeastern to use.

Just in case the company bother to read the thread I will re-post Penny's earlier post.
....................I did email Southeastern and this is part of the reply that came today.
Result!
"Regarding your concerns about the condition of the bridge steps, I can confirm that these are being cleaned today and I have confirmed this information with the Station Chargeman.".........................
Somebody is lying

, so disciplinaries should definitely be enforced.

I assume that there is much industry behind the scenes.
Perhaps a local celebrity is being sought for the Grand Unveiling. Then, of course, three quotes must be obtained, H&S to consider and the views of the Gulls themselves sought.
I hope I have not spoiled the surprise.

I've had another reply about the filthy steps.
It seems it's the *wrong type of flooring*!
"As I was unable to view the photos that you kindly sent, I was also unable to provide the Chargeman with the full details however I did mention to him that there was a fluff like substance on the steps and he advised me that he is aware of this and this occurs when the steps are swept as a result of the flooring used."
Anyway,same poo,different day

There was around £2.8 million spent on Dover Priory Station, the entrance and grounds in the last couple of years.
From the (road) bridge, the station looks in need of refurbishment, so must (does) look worse from inside.
The excuses made so far are worse than inexcusable.
Money was also spent on the cutting down of many trees on the bridge and planting some good shrubs, but I don't think this area has been attended to since - there are weeds strangling all the shrubs and other plants and everything is now a disgrace.
I have contacted them about the weeds, but nothing has been done, so will now follow up further.

Maybe they need to use a different kind of broom, either harder or softer as the case may be, common sense again not being used.

Naturally I don't know quite why all the conversation is to do with the flooring, especially as the photographs 'could not' be viewed, when the stark point seemed to be one of hygiene and common or garden hand rails.
The Rail Companies are obviously tied to the "Wrong sort of..." line.

the sad part is that the frontage is only a year or two old and looks great when kept clean.
I have yet to have a reply to my complaint, to which I attached readable pictures............

I have had a response, below. Has it been cleaned up properly yet, does anyone know?
Thank you for your website comment which we received on the 12 October 2011.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with regards to the station environment at Dover. I appreciate your concerns over this matter, and I would firstly like to say that we realise the importance of ensuring that waiting at our stations is a pleasant experience for passengers .
We do try to ensure that our stations are cleaned and maintained regularly. The Station Manager and his staff should make regular inspections of all public areas, including the toilets, throughout the day. If any problems are discovered, then our staff should try to rectify these as quickly as possible. When a problem is more serious, they may lock facilities while repair or specialist cleaning is arranged.
It is clear that we failed to address the problems you have raised at Dover station. So I have brought your comments to the attention of the Station Manager, Ms Caroline Bates, who will ensure that this issue is addressed as a priority.
Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us, I am sorry that you had to do so. I also hope that you will notice an improvement at Dover station in the near future.
Yours sincerely

Glad you had a reply,Bern.
It seems they have had a cursary sweep of the actual treads but the not the edges. the pile of feathers and poo and fluff has diminished around the the bit that the broom touched. So.no. It's not acceptably clean by anyone's standards.
Here's just the corner of one of the steps. They are all like this.
They say I need to make my photos into PDF format for them to be able to see them. I'll try but don' know how.
I took these photos yesterday
