Has anyone noticed how dirty the bridge steps are?
I know they haven't been swept for many weeks as the same fluff, feathers and poo is there day after day.
I appreciate the problem with pigeons but to not clean it up is very unhygienic. My granddaughter dropped her toy in it and to my delight I got a handful of poo when I used the handrail.
Wouldn't you think that a flagship station, with Eurostar and cruise passengers would be more welcoming than this.
I told the station manager about this and was asked to leave the station,I am not here to clean up after the public or the birds i was told, while another member of the station staff stood outside having a fag maybe you should send these photo's to south eastern and ask what do they pay there staff to do at Dover.

I spoke to an area manager who was at my station and he was more sympathetic. He got off at Dover so I pointed it all out but just got the "cuts" excuse.
I've sent the pictures and an email to Southeastern.
I can't believe you were asked to leave!
I asked one of the staff when the last time they were swept was and he replied with "we're all getting older now"
Have you emailed them?

The photos seem to indicate structural failure and an outbreak of rust.
Is that bent metal in photo 2 meant to be bent?
I am still amazed when people expect to keep their jobs while doing it so badly. Long gone are the days when a job meant being part of a cosy club - business is business, and all the better for it. There are plenty of ways to offer support and warmth to colleagues and employees without tolerating poor practice and inefficiency.
JHG....works there ....it is his fault...

he he!
Seriously, here is an example of where an awful lot of money has been spent..
mountains of work.........but who will take a pride in it.....Some stations have wonderful people who put in flowers and maintain the stations....but I think they have lost heart...................
I have not forgiven them for taking away those wonderful Horse Chestnut trees............

Another sad reflection of Britain today. Picking up a broom to sweep the front of the shop or station, in this case, is not in "my job description" therefore doesn't get done. Plus now they can blame the lack of a broom on "the cuts"! Just goes to show that you can throw money at things, but if the people don't change then the problem won't go away. Until the citizens of this country start to take more civic pride, this will be the norm. Go to Spain and the shop keepers clean the front of their premises every morning, because they take pride in having a clean shop that attracts people to visit it.

Sorry Charlie I dont run the world, and as far as the Station goes they don't allow me outside the Ticket Office because of my depth of knowledge, unfortunately I never learnt how to handle a brrom, they dont teach you that at White Collor School!

I did email Southeastern and this is part of the reply that came today.
Result!
"Regarding your concerns about the condition of the bridge steps, I can confirm that these are being cleaned today and I have confirmed this information with the Station Chargeman."
Any mention of the appalling manners to which you were subjected..............?
Nice one, though, for following it up and getting a response.

Obviously there are plans afoot to do away with this station. I don't know why they do not just come out and say it, plain and simple.
The disdain for the public might be a final cry for the recognition of their sad plight. A cry for help.

For a relatively newly refurbished station and one that is the first the a foreigner sees this is disgusting. Rubbish is bad enough but bird excrement on a hand rail is a health hazard, it would only take ten minutes to clean that off.
Shame on the station and area management they obviously are not up to the job.

You make a very valid point Jan. Dover Priory must indeed be Britain's Premier (if perhaps with a small 'p') railway station for many visitors. Private Enterprise and their bean-counter mentality yet again. No sight of the bigger picture, no vision and no apparent intention of enriching the country or the citizen's or visitor's experience of it. A great shame.
And so very unhygienic, as you say.

And the station employees can have no sense of pride in their jobs or their workplace.
