It is the saddest fact that the very personal relationship we each should have with Politics in a democracy has been killed and pickled and put on show to be viewed from the Left or from the Right only.
Even the occasional public information advert sounds hollow in the face of the tribal bickering that Politics in the UK has been reduced to.
Nevertheless!!!!!!!!
Politics IS you and me and next to nothing to do with those who enjoy and employ it as a mere play-thing. Frankly for too long the mass of the population has let this go by and carry on.
At one time I would amuse myself by boasting, in company, that my brother and I knew absolutely everything there was to know about everything and that we could answer any and all questions.
From time to time a 'disbeliever' would attempt to test the statement by asking a question and although I knew the answer I would, just to extract the amusement out of the game, say that I did not know the answer...but that this particular question was one my brother had the answer to.
Now, hopefully, you can see the ridiculous nature of this merry-wheeze and realise that we each and all could make the same boastful statement;the most erudite and the most ignorant of us.
And yet Party Politics in the UK is run along these same lines. Parliament, in effect, makes this self same boast. The twist is that each Party will tell us that it is they who have the answer and all we need do is elect them to power and we will see the truth of their boast. "Yea right!"
And yet, no matter the question it IS you and me that in the end will have to come up with the solution to any and all problems. We (the people) are the answer, the one and only answer.

Of these 3 are political in some way. 10% - a fairly modest total but I can see how there can be an impression that there is more though.

taking away the "where is it thread" only the "kiosk" thread gets anywhere near the 2 big political threads.
we try hard to start as wide a variety of topics as possible but some get little response. best examples are local events run by volunteers that i think deserve more encouragement.

well i think barryw and i would agree politics affects your every day life, so therefore your probably involved in it every day.
that said i think barryw has adequatly answered the incorrect view that politics dominates the forum.
it could be argued(not by me lol) that the 90% or more other than politics turn people off lol
so as howard says, the forum is made up of very differing people with very different outlooks on life.
some choose to post on every day local or national issues
some choose to take it down a more political line.
it is interesting that although some don't like the political stuff, they are often the ones that contribute!
and of course of all the postings everyone has a choice, to post on a subject or not.
I don't think any poster is ignored in any way, as iv had posts that die as many other posters do to.
it's about whether or not posters wish to post.
it's also interesting howards post that the political threads are some of the most popular.
another issue that has arisen is that of differing opinions on political threads,
whilst i may not agree with conservative posters and other political threads
i will air my views
but to clarify my position as im sure is the position of conservative and other political posters.
because we disagree on a political front does not mean we do not get on.
i have many friends that are supporters of the conservative and lots of parties(not there fault lol)
and i get on with all posters on this forum, and outside in the community.
i hope this clarifies.

Items such as the Kevin Lynes thread may not be of interest to someone who does not know that person.
