I've had a reply from the Director and the waste will be sorted out - as well as the other issues.

......a just reproach to all the land.
Trade waste is not a concern of Waste Services, Roger. Speak to Environmental Health Officers. Waste Services are only concerned with waste from residential properties. The council provide no waste services to businesses whatsoever, apart from periodic snooping to ensure trade waste is not smuggled out as household rubbish. Businesses have to pay private contractors through the nose to remove their waste.

I emailed the Director Peter - he's in charge of both departments and as DDC own the pier and cafe, I'm sure Roger will sort it out.

I am not a fan of Deal pier or the cafe.
Charging fishermen £9.50 and youngsters £6.30 per day to fish, while the general public are allowed on for free, in my opinion, is distasteful.
The café is far too expensive for me and is not contusive to fishermen who are the ones being charged for the privilege of using the pier. The previous café was far more popular and fisherman friendly, in my opinion.
However, with my wife visiting her mother, I took the opportunity to pop out to the café and have a look for myself. Some seats have been removed to accommodate the bins and they were clean and tidy and not obstructing any walkway. Although these bins are unsightly in design, they are a necessity to his operations and I fail to see what else he could do, except to make sure that he keeps them clean and tidy. Perhaps someone has already had a word with him, the shopping trolley was not there today but I'm told it is used for local shopping, avoiding taking car onto the pier.
Also, he was very busy, so he must be doing something right.

My apologies, does Peter mean there is an enclosure, inside the building?
I find that hard to believe, I will take another wrekkie.

Thanks folks, just keep up the pressure!
When the new cafe was built, included, to one side are two large external bin storage areas enclosed by wooden panelling designed to fit in with the the rest of the building. You can find them on the right as you walk around the end.
That's the reason I got so annoyed. If there was no provision for waste fair do's but there is. It is the sheer reluctance of the cafe propriator to use them that galls me

What a difference a week makes. Plus some pressure from Dover Forumites, a couple of local councillors and, of course, DDC themselves.
As of today the two large bins and the shopping trolley at the front of the Cafe have been stored correctly leaving only the small bin out front but around the back on the seaward side the large bin remains.
I've got a letter in the East Kent Mercury this week, It got held over awaiting a reply from the Cafe proprietor, who suprise, suprise,
simply blamed DDC for not collecting the rubbish!! Nothing to do with him then!!
The pier attendants do a fine, courteous job. They are fantastic. Would it be possible for them to report back to DDC (as DDC employees) when the cafe gets out of line again.
Maybe we will see the other bins disappear shortly. Deal deserves better.

great to hear that peter, we had major problems here in dover with private and commercial waste and after a lot of forum pressure, roger badgering waste services etc the offenders seem to have stopped.
like all councils ddc are running on tight budgets and cannot go around checking everything, the more photos on here of such things actually helps them to pinpoint problems.

Yes indeed, it's good to hear that these problems do get resolved and Dover Forumites help gets recognised.
As you say Howard, Folkestone Road (and others) are better, but not yet perfect; not sure it ever will be, but it is getting there.

Last few days and nights have seen Essex trawlers pillaging the fishing beds off Deal Pier and Promenade areas. They are going up & down systematically dredging the beds. Did the same last year. Shame for local anglers and fishing parties which make up part of Deal's tourism offer.

It was me Howard, ruining the local fishing and as Paul says that is a big part of what attracts people to Deal.
