We used to enjoy a walk and a cuppa or an ice-cream on our lovely pier but not any more, for the same reasons above. It was always good therapy for my wife, as she could sit and have rest when she needed to but now we dont use the cafe there is no point.
Also as a youth, I would spend every day of my summer holidays on that pier and every weekend and sometimes after school, keeping out of trouble and having a great time.
All those visitors are able to walk on there free of charge, yet our kids have to pay £6.30 for a day/night session, thats £118.80 for the summer, just to get on the pier, then there is bait and food to add to that and if you have two or more kids, well, it speaks for itself.
As a kid we used to pop in the cafe for a bag of chips and bottle of pop, I can't see that happening now.
How many kids do you see fishing on the pier now on a regular basis, very few is the answer. So where are they all now, hanging round town.
Visitors should be charged to go on the pier, kids should be free.
