The report says that East Kent University hospital trust has not commented on what services they will continue to provide but as Paul says in post 8 Deal is not one of their hospitals. Secondly why are so many staff leaving in March?

Because they want to work in a modern up to date facility that we will have here in Dover?

I can see how some would prefer the new hospital but according to social media in January they were leaving en masse which seems odd if tthey thought Deal was staying open. According to reports both staff and patients were happy there.

The story tells what services will be provided by the Community Trust who manage the hospital.
They are not saying existing Out Patients services provided by East Kent Hospital Trust will remain ,they still go to Buckland on opening.
Definitely confusing to the public.
What it does demonstrate is the numbers of services Deal does & will provide in the future. It is not closing, never was.

I'm still confused Paul, forgetting the Community trust and East Kent etc etc what services will be available at Deal once the Dover hospital is up and running?

Look at the Kent online story . It gives a very long & precise lists of services, both on the hospital main building & the clinic in the grounds. The only part they omit is the Ambulance service facility which belongs to a separate Trust.

Sorry Mr Watkins but I think it will close within two years. I hope that I am proved wrong but I still think it will go.

Two hospitals so close together hosting a wide range of services cannot continue in the long term.

It's not as simple as Mr Watkins would like everyone to believe. The new Dover Hospital will be run by East Kent NHS Trust which is in special measures and has a lot of problems to contend with. Deal Hospital will be run by South Kent Coast CCG which has a decent budget and is co-managed by local GP's.
The new Dover Hospital business plan was relient on Deal closing but surprisingly there is now a strong possibility Deal will increase services. Good news I guess but I still think the district would have been much stronger with a 'proper' new hospital in a more central and accesible location for all to benefit.

As usual Jack Heart spouts the wrong info.
The CCG does not run Deal Hospital , it commissions & pays for its services as they do for the new Dover Hospital, WHH,K&C & QEQM plus other services.
The only services going to Buckland are the East Kent Hospital OPD sessions , nothing else.
The list of services to be provided by the Community Trust at Deal are contained within the East Kent Mercury & Kent on line articles.
There is no question of Deal Hospital closing as he acknowledges.
With major shifts in discharge processes the two local hospitals will provide more community based & outreach facilities .

As I posted I am sorry to say that Deal will go to the wall as a hospital that was always on the cards with the new one being build at Dover. But I do not know anymore then any others do just my way of thinking.

Vic, the current health changes support the use of smaller community hospitals to decant & relieve beds in the larger specialised units.
The A&E crisis is caused by lack of step/down/intermediate care beds that Deal provides.
The OPD changes moving to Buckland have produced opportunities for support to Community outreach services & rehab backup. More local specialist [non medical]services have been identified to replace the OPD clinics.
The view is Deal gains.
