Does anyone know what is happening there? I keep hearing that nursing staff are leaving in March coincidentally when the new Dover/Buckland hospital is scheduled to open.

Maybe these houses are needed for staff relocating to the new Dover hospital?

That's the rumour amongst those affected and others in the street, that was the original purpose for them just taken a long time to happen!

Bit of a wild guess from me Reg I wasn't aware of the history. Leaving aside the issue of residents needing to be rehoused the future of Deal hospital looks increasingly bleak. A look at the East Kent NHS website llists the fact that they run hospitals in Ashford, Margate, Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone but no mention of the one in Deal.

Sorry to say I did point this out at a public meeting some time ago ."That the Deal hospital would close once the new one at Dover open up.Deal Hospital is a very good one with good staff but it has been on the cards along time but not this side of the election.

A lot of us suspected that would happen but everyone in the know denies or says nothing including our parliamentary candidates. A few months back I wanted to contact their audiology department and it didn't exist on their website. I then phoned them and they said they didn't have one in a tone that suggested they never had one in the first place. This is despite the fact i have had 4 appointments with them over the last 5 years.

Deal Hospital is not closing.
Outpatient Clinics are being transferred to the new Buckland & replacement services are being agreed with the CCG,,Deal doctors & the Community Nursing Trust, who are contracted to run the hospital. It is likely to be back up services for early acute hospital discharges serving the community.
It is not an East Kent Hospital Trust hospital, they were only contracted to supply Out Patient services. The consultation for the re-provision of Buckland contained the proposal to transfer OPD services from Deal to Buckland but was frankly missed by many in the ongoing Buckland debate.

Paul it feels to Deal people that we have really lost out on the movement to Buckland of the Outpatient facilities, particularly those without transport, progress? It does not feel like it!

Don't disagree Martin. The good news is that with the bed shortages at QEQM & WHH , early discharges to Deal & new Buckland proposal will ensure future. Out reach services are likely to replace OPD at Deal , this will supplement early discharges into the community, the new integrated health/social care model.

Good that something remains but it is not going to benefit the community anywhere enough to compensate what we are losing.

A bit of swings and roundabouts for Deal residents, they will lose some services but in future most appointments that meant travelling to Ashford, Margate and Canterbury will be held at much closer to home Dover.

Howard, Deal Hospital is packed every day, it is packed for services that will not be available there once the changes happen.

I am not sure if Dover will be easier to get to for Deal residents rather than Margate. The A258 between Deal and Dover is not great and as we all know, accidents and weather can often close it. Public transport? very limited options. Is the car park at Buckland going to be big enough?

That is true they are coming to Dover ,but at this time we in Dover have to go to Deal .I have to take members of my family both to Deal, Folkestone ,.So it will mean that it is a turn around. We all do it.

Buses Deal/Dover run twice an hour during daytime. Dover town centre to the hospital is about 10 minutes and runs every 20 minutes. I would imagine that Stagecoach will up at least one of those services once the hospital is up and running.

No I am not please in anyway sir I think like the rest of you that all major towns should have their own cottage hospital.with services and if they made cut backs where they should then that could still happen the N.H.S, is full of pen pushers yes they need some but there are far to many.+the N,H,S,is pushed and pulled from one post to the next the services needs to left alone ,each time we have a election and the powers goes from one party to the other they alter it around just like the schools .MPs are amateurs if a company was to run like they run the UK they would go bust in a week.So sir I am not happy with any of it.

According to this all current services and clinics will stay after all.
