Many thanks to the guys at DDC again for the following info just through...
*************************************************
CAR PARK CHARGES
As part of the annual budget review, Dover District Council has looked at car parking charges across the district - and a range of charges, including price freezes for the year ahead, were approved by Cabinet on Monday (6 February).
Decisions from Cabinet include:
· Charges at the two most used car parks in the district at Stembrook in Dover and Middle Street in Deal have been frozen
· Charges at the three lower rate car parks in the district at Gazen Salts in Sandwich, Union Road in Deal and Albany Place in Dover also remain the same
· On-street charges remain the same - except on Dover Seafront and Beach Street, Deal where rates reflect that in adjacent car parks
· DDC continues to operate a number of free car parks across the district.

Sounds like a very sensible and responsible approach to parking charges this year; well done DDC.

Good to see the central charges frozen. The seafront charges go up though...doesnt say by how much. But I suppose they come under a different criteria..Leisure.

Just to add that I feel sure the shops and restaurants in the hard pressed town centres will be pleased with this one. Maybe DDC did respond to the parking charge outcry on here before.

I did create a scheme that would not cost the shoppers anything at all when they come into Dover, but now I am unemployed (unemployable ?), it's of no consequence

I have locked this thread at the top following the arrival of a new press release just in hot off the press from LABOUR...which puts a completely different take on this one about car parking charges.
I quote from the opening line....
"
The Conservative administration of Dover District Council has agreed to make parking your car in Dover, Deal and Sandwich at least 10% more expensive in most car parks from April onwards.
"
A Stealth Tax...?
Read more on the frontpage now with quotes from Gordon Cowan Labour Leader, and Mike Eddy Shadow Finance.
An interesting idea in Post #6 Roger...

Stealth tax?
Looking at the way DDC amend the tariffs printed on the machines, I don't think 'stealth' is the correct term.
When they do decide to implement increases (which doesn't really seem to be the case, as stated here) DDC seem to have a palimpsestic approach, leaving the layers of vinyl digits below as a constant reminder that "things have gone up".

Paul, front page typo!
"Annual off-street permits are going up by £30 (from £40 to £370) and an annual business permit by £25, a 20% increase (from £125 to £150). In some resident parking zones annual charges for on-street parking permits will also be going up (from £35 to £50)."
This looks to be yet another party-political slick-trick. As with the garden waste charge so too here; Council tax frozen, car parking charges remain the same...and yet?

Tom thanks for the info re typo. Have changed it now.
Yes Keef the Labour Group were on the ball with this one. They have been quiet for a while....but all okay now. Looking underneath the headlines they have spotted the rises in some locations and responded.

Deary, deary me. It is plain that I am no driver. I took the typo to be the '3' in front of the '70'.

Leave the car at home and get a bus or walk.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Great. With a blue badge you can park outside Blakes with no time limit.
