23:2580837The sensible upshot of this will be the creation of in the first instances, shared services across two or more local authorities, followed inevitably and sensibly the consolidation of local authorities thus reducing the numbers of them and a concomitant reduction in staffing

23:4180840And offer the jobs out to people other than those who have worked in local government in the past. There are dinosaurs out there who need to be got rid of.

10:2680855So, if all senior posts go, who runs the business, Brian?
That unitary approach has been long in the planning, but national politicians can be a little wary as it opens the door to fewer MPs wiht larger constituencies........it's a bigger picture!!

11:5880860Ah no, Bern! There is a general agreement from all parties, including UKIP, and of-course the 3 mainstream parties, that there should be an election reform, so that all the votes do not go to the one candidtae of a giant constituency who got the most single votes.
So licencing off Councillors and Council staff cannot be put in connection with the expressed wishes to introduce an election reform for Parliament.
If lack of funds for Councils will mean that the Council staff have to be decimated in number, or quartered, or halved, then so be it, but it's a separate issue!

12:0180861Personally I am for each County having a large degree of economic autonomy, with a much higher proportion of local taxes goint to the local County and its districts.
It would free us from the never-ending debits of the national treasury, and give local Councils the chance to sort their own economic problems out, such as finding work for the unemployed who speak the same dialect with the same accent.

14:2680866What amazes me is that if some senior posts can go without much affect on the day to day running of the council or business it begs the question what and why were the senior administrators doing in the past? Could we have managed without them for years?

16:2780881Hi Marek!!!
See my post #6, I agree. But I am still a bit concerned that the worth of a good manager is undervalued. I emphasise "good"!!!!

16:3880891Hi Bern
Still catching up having been undergoing treatment.Great minds think alike.A good manager leads by example and motivates staff to do likewise. I have been lucky that some of my line managers became friends and great leaders of men all 3 of them receiving OBE's for their dedication to duty but they are a dying breed.Nowadays you have to be able to "talk the talk" and not necessarily be able to do the job. There is a lot to be said for those that have worked their way up through the ranks.

09:1780961Hope the treatment proves a success Marek and you have a full recovery.
It is so true that many people can indeed talk the talk, but so many rarely walk the walk and produce what they say they will.
Locally this happens to devastating effect.
