i understand that we have them coming up in may, is it worth bothering to vote though?
we have 4 councilors in dover but haven't a clue what they do, nothing in the local media or press releases here.
i often wonder what percentage of people even know who their councilor/s are.

Probably more than know (or care) who their forum moderators are, Howard. If you want to know who they are and what they do, you could always find out their names and addresses from the KCC website and ask them. Perhaps Gordon Cowan and Nigel Collor are names you may have heard?

gordon used to send press releases but nothing about what was happening at maidstone, just local party poltical stuff. nigel used to put up some useful bits from trading standards but stopped doing so a long while ago.
everyone knows that central government grants to kcc have been cut and will be cut even further in the future, people are entitled to know how they will be affected.

Not surprised they stopped, Howard. This forum (collectively) has a history of biting the hands that feed it.

Mr Garstin sir well said, nothing to do with what is being asked, but I have within the last 30mins by email asking if I am going to stand again? At this time I cannot stand for more then afew mins

but I will be standing again for a county seat in May,I know that it is only about 3% of me winning one,but I will be standing.

niced try at blaming the forum, neither local newspapers get press releases either besides we get district councillors posting here that get criticised, they don't go into hiding, incidentally gordon, has never been a member.
we know there have been cut in services to yoof and the elderly that have been made public, surely we should have details explained to us via local media?

The other two councillors who have not been mentioned are Bryan Cope (Dover West) and Steve Manion (Dover North).
I have to admit I had never heard of Bryan Cope until I looked him up, we used to hear from Nigel often but nothing for a long time is he still a member of the forum?

apparently bryan cope is a good egg even keith said so!!
gordon has never been a member, have tried to get him to join many times when i have seen him in morrisons but understand why he doesn't with all his commitments. steve manion was years ago for a short while, nigel as per post 7.

Bryan is a good guy, Steve I have never met which means that as a candidate for my vote he won't be considered. I only vote for people I know and trust to do the right thing.

doesn't that back my point about knowing who people are peter?
ihave heard that steve is a very diligent worker for his constituents, not in my part of the district though.

Having them put stuff on the forum does not mean you know who they are and what they stand for. I applaud the courage of councillors of any persuasion who contribute to a forum such as this as they are putting themselves in the firing line.
Having said that, this is a Dover forum not a Kent forum and county councillors have - or should have - bigger fish to fry.

Steve Manion is a frequent attender at Eythorne Parish Council, came along to the re-opening of Eythorne Post Office services when that resumed out of the back of the Baptist Church and has been active in supporting organisations accessing Coal Field regeneration funds.

Indeed Neil - Steve has worked very hard to get Coal Field Regeneration money for the ex-mining communities. Because he doesn't represent Dover Town, doesn't mean to say he shouldn't be re-elected. I believe he is a lay-preacher too.

Bit unfair to single out individuals, we have parish, town, district and county councillors. I'm sure they are all well intentioned but there are far too many of them.
