COUNCIL TAX DECISION
Dover District Council has confirmed that its part of the Council Tax bill has been frozen at the same level as 2010/11 for the next financial year. This was agreed at a meeting of Dover District Council on Wednesday 2 March.
The average total bill for a B and D property in Dover District for 2011/12 will be £1,461.06. This is an increase in the average total bill of £2.13 or 0.15%. The total bill includes the element of Council Tax for Kent County Council (£1,047.78), Dover District Council (£158.94), Kent Police Authority (£138.68), Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority (£67.95), and an average for Town and Parish Councils of £47.71. The only element that has changed on the previous year is the average for Town and Parish Councils.

What it doesn't tell you is that DDC get 2.5% from the goverment if they do not increse the Council Tax,which is another cut with inflation running at 4%
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

So it's even better for the council tax payer John.

Regardless of how when or why the council tax is frozen surely it's good news whichever way one puts it..

That's right Marek.
In these very hard times, to keep it the lowest council tax in Kent with no increase and maintain front-line services, is very good for the people of Dover.
Waste service has actually increased and is now cheaper, so that is a bonus too.

Yes the councils are merging services although I dont know if its having a financial effect as of yet. Perhaps PauliW will let us know. But any money saving to locals at this dire time has got to be good news. Its worth just accepting it as good news, and rejoice in the fact thats its not just another increase for our beleaguered wallets.

How about this shared service, shared Chief Excutive, shared Management Team combine Councils same Commuity Charge. Now look closely at what Sheppey and Canterbury Charge,if you want shared services be prepared to pay the same as them.
You may have also seen in the papers about sharing a Chief Excutive, looks good at first site, now consider this,1 Chief Ex covering 2 jobs, one will be made redundant if it is the Dover Chief Ex we will be paying his redundancy and our shared partner won't be able to contribute, and according to the Dover Express he gets between £120,000 and £124,999 a year.So you get his redundancy to pay and half a person doing his job! Not so good now is it?
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

John as ever gets it wrong, purposely I believe.
If you share a Chief Executive you share the costs of the post. Therefore if the salary is £100k each authority will pay £50k & make the same saving. How you work out how the compensation share works out is a side agreement.
Apply the principle to the layers of common management which are part of an agreement.
The more shared services the less staff responsibility & individual decision making for existing
senior managers, therefore the job changes.l
In John's world you don't make changes because of redundancy costs, so the same posts at expensive costs continue .
If you take John's analysis on council tax you will be equally conned. Dover's council tax is the lowest in East Kent.
Shout it from the roofs folks.
Each council is responsible for its services & council tax.
If it can buy services cheaper by sharing staff [not duplicating, triplicating , etc the same job]& reducing cost why should you pay excessive council tax increases?
In John's world his reponsilbility is to the status quo & public sector jobs you pay for.
My world works on the principle to get the best deal for you the Council Tax payer.

We discussed this at the Scruity Budget meetings and about the effects of shared Chief Excutives,if you ask nicely I will get Gordon Cowan to give you a briefing.
