13:0989776the prime minister's communication supremo has finally resigned after continued allegations about his role in the phone hacking scandal.
it is thought to be a good day to bury bad news, the headlines are all about mrs johnson and her relationship with dixon of dock green and mr blair squirming at the iraq inquiry.

14:1089790Hasn't worked out like that, all the lunchtime headlines are about Coulson and I'm sure he would have preferred the headlines to be about Blair and Johnson. I have a feeling a lot more will come out over the weekend about all these stories.

16:1189804the sunday journals will have been doing a lot of muck raking on the coulson and johnson stories.
the iraq inquiry with the ex p.m does not have the same appeal for the tabloids.

16:1289805Jeez they're going down like Ninepins. Coulson hung on like a bad case of the flu much longer than expected. He keeps claiming to be a total innocent at large, yet so far he has resigned from two huge high powered jobs claiming innocence. To lose one job might be careless but to lose two could be habit forming.
I think they did try to bury it in the midst of all the other big stories...if it was the only story it would get more coverage for sure. Its still getting plenty though I acknowledge...but has to share the airtime with Tony Blair and Mr and Mrs Johnson.
Coulson clearly not as warm and innocent as Alastair Campbell!!

16:3489813He was the victim af a quite disgraceful, near slanderous personal campaign by a Labour Party that is incapable of sticking to serious policy issues.
Compared to Alistair Campbell, Coulson would rank as a saint. At the end of the day though, he is just a spin doctor, not a minister or MP, just a two a penny media hack.

16:4489814they must have lot to spin, mr coulson was being paid £.475,000 per annum.
2 own goals from dave here, first the photographer business now coulson, it all questions his judgement.
he knew that there was a cloud over him when he first employed him.

17:0889817Howard- he had been cleared when he was appointed and then cleared again. He is a victim of a nasty campaign and like all left wing campaigns like this the truth and justice have no part to play.

17:1389818Barry, speak to Paul the owner of the Castle Inn. He is a journalist and has worked with Coulson during his time at the News of the Screws. Then you may wish to delete posts #5 and #7.

17:2089820that's right, he feels there has been a cover up and that he is a victim, even the new york times wanted further investigations.
the police have dragged their feet on this one and keep being given new evidence.
interestingly dave just stated that he felt mr coulson had been punished twice for the same offence.

17:2389822Yes I'm sure Mr Coulson as an arbiter of 'truth and justice' is a victim.
I've also heard that Phillip Green really likes paying tax.

17:2789823Darren I have missed our animated conversations over the bar. Where have you been?
And as far as Coulson's career is concerned, I think it more likely that truth and justice have been the victims, not he.

17:3189826I promise to come in soon Peter. It really has been too long.
Nice point about Mr Coulson and truth. The only positive point I could make about the Conservative appointment of him is that at least he is the product of the his own 'merits' which falls in line with the ideology they preach, but rarely exemplify.

i think the isue is about judgement by our betters, why do so many associate themselves with people that could cause them future embarrassment?
who do they have as advisers?

21:1689856Brian, not for me sunshine.
Coulson writes/talks language your & I understand.
Forget the politics he could communicate the message.
Whether you liked the message is different but he gave you an understandable viewpoint to make a judgement.

23:1189870With the greatest respect to all the political pundits on the forum

, anyone connected to the political game is a spin doctor of some sort.
You all believe you are speaking the truth but it is your version of the truth which may differ from the way I or anyone else may see it. Hence some of the rubbish

, sorry debates, on this forum and in parliament.
I will now creep back under my stone and hide.

01:0589874Not for me Paul.
coulson writes a language I find patronising.
He embraces politics, as ultimately his boss (at one time) dictates public views.
Whether you liked the viewpoint is different, he gave you an understandable message of his judgement.
