couldn't do it on a saturday helen there are market stalls as far as the eye can see then.
considering it is the quiet end of town there was a lot of interest from passers by and goodies handed to the kids.
It looked very good , but I was less than impressed when 2 police officers stood in the precincts and watched a cyclist speed stright past them through the pedestrians , nothing more than an empty PR stunt . I raised the issue of street drunks, beggers and pubs that serve drunks , The intial contact was with a person who appeared to imply that that was a lifetsyle choice and the police could do nothing about it |( which it is ) but the resultant criminal activity ie offensive language ,aggresive begging and abusive language is not , when I pointed this out. I was then passed to another officer who was extremely nice and took details of my concerns .
On the way back up 4 officers ignored another cyclist so as I said an empty PR stunt that no doubt ticks a box on " community engagement " on some statistic somewhere .
I forgort that I was also told that its very difficult to catch people commiting these offences . I pointed out that I am a plump 50 year old woman who cant walk very fast and everyday I can find examples of this behaviour in the High Street , Pencester , the sea front subway and the benches outside Marks and Spencers and if the officers wanted me to guide me to them as they cant find them I was more than happy to do so .

so they wouldn't give you a gooddie bag either sarah?
you're right the offences are clear to see but it seems ignored.
i often worry when i sit in pencester gardens that i will be arrested for not drinking alcohol, it would come across as anti social behaviour to others there.

on the subject of cycling this bloke swerved around me to go in to the subway, must have beein in his 40's.
rather ironically the advert for the cycle shop is at the top of the picture.
I know what you mean Howard , I am more than happy to highlight these issues on the forum if the Police are having trouble finding examples of drunks beggers and offensive behaviours in central Dover , maybe a thread that gives the daily examples would help them ? what do others think ?

i have started threads on pavement cyclists and the state of the river but after a time it just looks like i am doing down the town.
posh barry wirnessed me getting very nearly badly injured when a cyclist sprinted around dickens corner and about 10 minutes later an old lady crossing a road to reach the pavement, thankfully she was just too slow for the maniacal cyclist on the pavement.
with regard to pencester there has to be a total ban on drinking there, the containers always end up in the river.
it is unlikely that a police officer will be there when they are thrown, so if there is no drinking then the river will stay clean except for fast food containers.
I am more than happy to start the thread , Its absolutely not dissing the town , its just listing behaviours that are eveident to any passer by , but just not to uniformed police officers ,

We all know these things are happening and so do the police but they are doing nothing about the law breakers as Sarah witnessed this morning.
From Howard's excellent bottom picture, "You set the priorities..........We take the action", the problem is they do NOT take action and it makes me so annoyed to put it mildly.
I do not blame the odd policeman that we seldom see around the town, I blame the top officers who sit in their offices and do not seem to care about the petty crimes.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

You go girl! It isn't dissing the town at all - it is protecting and defending it!
Thanks Bern ! and Jan . Im off to start my thread , please feel free to join in , I love Dover and the people who pull thier guts out to try and make things better , but I am sick and tired of totally unacceptable /illegal behaviour being at best tolerated and at worst condoned by the services that are there to stop it .

I would love to post photos I have taken over the years of illegal and antisocial behaviour on Dover's streets. Before I do so I would like PaulB's assurance that identifying people committing offences would not involve the forum in legal action. Because if I have to post pictures with faces pixellated out I shall not bother.

i have posted similar peter, best to wait for paul to confirm though - i don't know about the legality.
the convenience shop in pencester road still posts photos of alleged miscreants in their window and nothing is done about it.
I would just be happy with the description of the behaviour , the place and the time , Peter , please feel free to list it on the " Where its all Happening " thread . if that would help .
My understanding is that, if we are in public, our images are public property. Otherwise CCTV and cellphone pics would be inadmissable as evidence and they are not, if they are supported by other evidence. Slebs are papped all the time in public and can do SFA about it, why not crims? In addition, and in my view reprehensibly, the local press have been known to snap people leaving court after conviction and pasting it all over their papers, thus at a stroke adding to the already considered sentence and punishment meted out quite properly by the courts. They are not challenged or sued over it.

I witnessed 50 or 60 cyclists whizzing down the subway yesterday afternoon at about 1.30 pm. They were all wearing crash helmets, I don't know if they were foreigners or locals but they didn't take a blind bit of notice of the "cyclists dismount" signs and one or two of us shouting out at them.
