18:5089117Paving please Nigel, given the choice, as you say my bad ankles and my Sholley trolley do not like cobbles.
Rather than removing all the cobbles which do look nice, could paving be laid every so often to give easy crossing points, it might work out cheaper that way.
Following on from Bern's comment when I lived in Suffolk most of the roundabouts were sponsored by local companies.

10:3789166Leave the cobbles and spend the money elsewhere ie street cleaning, refuse collection, benches and litter bins even flowers etc.

10:4389169Fair enough thanks but it does seem a waste of money when the roads are so badly cracked after the recent frost and snow.

10:5989176That's in hand Marek but if anyone sees any really bad ones please advise Kent Highway Services on 08458 247 800 or through
www.kent.gov.uk/highways.
Last year Kent Highways Services filled over 130,000 following the severe winter through a 'Find & Fix' scheme where teams from nominated contractors toured around and when they found a pot holes they fixed it - simples - cuts down on paperwork.
Remember though that Kent Highways Services are not responsible for the A20 and the A2 - this is the Highways Agency on behalf of the Department for Transport.

11:3889188Yes Marek, the benches are important so those who have injured themselves on the cobbles can recover while looking at the extra pretty flowers.

17:2189285I`ve personally never had problems with the cobbles and don`t know of anyone who has. By the sounds of things, I suspect these will be coming up anyway? Hope not, they are attractive. Much more urgent things to be sorted first.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

00:5989351May-be we should keep the cobbles for horse-drawn carts. They could come in handy in that area on Saturdays.

15:3889401The problem with tarmac for any replacement is that inevitably it will be dug up at some stage leaving a horrible patchwork of repairs. At least the cobbles or sets are so uneven anyway you don't notice.

13:1190728Pleased to see that after weeks of me being on my soap box to Kent Highways the blocks have been reinstalled replacing tarmac laid following gas works outside the new baker's shop near to McDonald's.
Need to keep the pressure up.

10:2490943Vic - quite simple - Paul B and I had a discussion and he asked me if I wouold give snippits of information on the forum - that is what I'm doing.
As I always have, I am going around seeing what wants doing and getting it done as opposed to sittting playing with a keyboard.
