12:2279907Now Ive got your attention may i suggest that during the 2 mins silence tomorrow, it becomes impossible to post and that anyone linking to the forum at that time just gets a poppy on screen. I don't know whether this feasible but it would be a nice show of respect.

12:2579909i would have though that most of us will be outside the town hall at that time, i doubt that any of our members would be as insensitive as to post during the two minutes silence.

12:4879910Many years ago, when Cyril Fletcher was the Mayor's secretary and I first started to get involved, the 2 minutes silence was often buzzed by a light aircraft from a local ( dare I say air training) group that should have known better. Jolly songs were also heard from the Mormon's meeting in Biggin Hall.
If anyone posts Guzz, he should be blacklisted.

08:5079981Hi Guzzler have taken your comment onboard and have put a Remembrance piece on the frontpage...so that anyone logging in today will see the symbol of Remembrance and a few words. Not possible just to blank things out for 2 minutes but have done the next best thing.
Had not planned to do it that way but following your suggestion did so, but would in due course have carried the usual coverage of pictures from the local Service today..which I will endeavour to get all being well.

16:5180027I, as stated above, was more sensible being at home in the dry. I found it very touching seeing the odd child marching past the Cenotaph, one young lad was wearing his father's George Cross and Bar.

17:1380033Bern it was actually taken last year outside the Town Council offices, its obviously as you can see had a bit of manipulation, but I think it does the job and I like it myself too.
Yes indeed Howard I was over there with BrionyB at the big event ,as ever conducted beautifully by the Rev Ridley and all was carried out in very good order. Very well organised. And Yes ... we got a right good soaking but that good man and top councillor Mick Smith held his brolly over Briony for most of the event so saved the day.
The councillors and mayor lined up in front of house, as did Charlie Elphicke, and all sang the hymns in fine style and also of course all got a right good soaking. Brollies not an option for them. And Charlie didnt even have a coat, they clearly dont pay them enough up there at the big House!
Afterward to get in out of the deluge BB and myself dropped in to the revamped Prince Albert. Tony Jayms said they do good lunches. We basically went in to get out of the rain but stayed for a good warming lunch.
But of course a pub is a pub and they let anyone in..particularly those mad forumites who are fond of a pint. Yes they all washed in. I couldnt eat me cumberland sausage in peace....and here's the thing, I never seen a better looking collection of fine gentleman even though they'd been out in the rain all morning. All looking as if they had stepped out of Burtons front windown. I couldnt beleive it!
We had ..
Tom Guzzler Mitchell very sprightly and tall complete with blazer and medals.
Nigel Collor looking dapper and asking for five or six pints all at the same time.
Roger Walkden immaculate in frisky style and with a twinkle in his eye.
Jean Walkden with her ready smile even though she had to sit with all dem Tories.
Phil Eyden also looking dapper and clearly enjoying his pint(s)!
Stewart Dimmock also looked very highly suited and booted...I think they all go to the same tailor. I felt dowdy in comparison
but all were having a good time.
I once had a pint in there with Keith 'Keefy' Sansum but there was no sign of him today.
But back to the serious business for a moment. I managed to get a few shots of the ceremeny in progress and will sort them out in the next few hours and get them on the frontpage.

17:5080040I would really like to compliment David Ridley for what he did today. There he was standing bare headed throughout the service in all that pouring rain while us lesser mortals hid under hats or umbrellas. Well done David.
