The press are not present because we were only ever notified of the first one. I have found out about tonight's awards by seeing this thread. Far too late to book the photographer or ask a reporter to work for the evening. I think it is a great shame that someone didn't call us maybe last week to book the event with us

it's all like a conspiracy of silence, as far as i can see only vic knew about it.
i thought the idea was to publicly thank the award winners?

I always thought the Town Council had problems with their publicity department...I have had a whinge in the past over a number of items. But as we see, KathyB herself of the Dover Express in post 22 didnt know...so what are the Council doing at all at all?
Hereby christened ...The Silent Awards.
Award ceremonies always seek and need the oxygen of publicity or whats the point in having them.

It was a lovely ceremony last night, very well organised and quite a few people attended (Jean and I included).
I have a list of those who received awards, but it is in the car - I'll post later who they were.
I know Horace Holyer was one for his unstinting work for tourism, also Marilyn Stephenson Knight for her work on the Dover War Memorial Project, was another.
It would have been good if the Press were advised and invited, as these people do deserve public recognition.

I always understood that these awards were for people who lived within the Dover Town Council area?Im sure I could have nominated a few worthy people who live in River .

If you must post rubbish at least complete your sentences .I have not got it wrong .There is no publicity to nominate people and as I have attended two out of four of these events I noted that all the awards went to people who live in the DTC area .I have not seen a Deal or Sandwich person receive an award .

One doesn't have to live in the DTC area to be nominated for an award Sue. The criteria for nomination are:-
A resident of the Town of Dover who provides voluntary service or raises funds for charity and has done so since at least 1 January 2007;
OR
A resident outside the Town of Dover who provides voluntary service within the Town of Dover or raises funds for charities specifically within the Town of Dover and has done so since at least 1 January 2007.
So yes, you could nominate anyone in River next year, or even someone who lives in another county, e.g. Maggie of the DWMP.
Congratulationss to all winners.
