Again we see the Dover Town Council leading the way in giving out Awards. And Monday night will see this done again with their Civic awards Evening on Monday at 1830hrs, I am looking forward to being there with my wife.
Well done to the town Council. And by writing this down ,it shoud not be seen as a disrepect to the District council because it is not. But I feel that it is a Town event and that the Town council should head any award like this. With the Mayor of Dover handing over the awards. THANK YOU.

I have been to two of these events .Each time a volunteer from Age Concern was given an award .River Parish Council donot hand out awards .DDC give out certificates but a low key affair .DDC would soon be critised for spending ratepayers money .

On the other hand Sue it doesn't cost much to give recognition to those that deserve it.

A very good work mate of mine does litter picking up in the Dover Distict ,you will see him up Castle Hill you will see him picking up going down the Jubilee way ,up water works hilland lots of other places to, been doing it for years the District council give him the yellow bags, he puts all the litter in the Bags, and the council pick.it up.He has his yellow coat on loves doing it does not get any payment for doing it,he just does it because he loves this area. i just hope the Distict council have give him a reward like the Town council would have done. He would never aske for anything but it would be nice to see his photo in the press picking up a reward for all he does.

You didn't know about the Civic awards everning Paul ? that's odd, being a Town Council/Mayor event.
I understood that those who have nominated local people are also invited; I nominated Marilyn Stephenson-Knight for her work with the Dover War Memorial Project and so have been invited to attend.
I don't know if it is open to Joe Public but a call to DTC will determine that - their number is 242625.

It's odd that this is such a low key affair. The first one was three years ago and was covered by the press, the last two however have not been mentioned. That to my mind is a great shame.
It was right and proper that John Turnpenny, Jack Woolford and Bob Tant were made Freemen of Dover. However, due recognition should also be made, and seen to be made which is important, to the others who perform services beyond the call of duty.

If you feel people who are worthy of awards have been overlooked, there is nothing to stop you writing to the Mayor or the DDC chairman recommending them for one.

That's what the public have done Peter. What I am saying is that the event should be given more publicity.

My understanding is that the nominated person is allowed so many guests and of course the person who does the original nomination.Approx 100 people attend .I have been for the past two years Press were not present .Photos were taken
Light refreshments are provided.

i have not seen it advertised anywhere, certainly cannot find it on the town council website.
a great pity after reading on here about people that do things quietly for the community.
