Perhaps someone from the Gurkhas would be worth considering , they are part of the community and serve our Country so well.

As Sheila has mentioned the light switch on is the 26th nov, not yet decided on who will switch them on, the Marlowe send the panto stars and it usually does not cost anything, as they are promoting the panto, but i am with some not everyone knows who they are,but if all else fails the Mayor of the Town is a good stand in surely.

You are thinking of John Partridge.
He is a bit better than a minor soap star having been in Lloyd Webber's musical Cats for a number of years, he is Rum Tum Tugger in the Cats DVD, he was also in the reality Over The Rainbow.

I think most of us would have been happy with the. Mayor xx
As switch on is a town council event the chairman of DDC probably wouldn't have been appropriate as I learned recently that the Chairman usurps The Mayor when attending events.
Looking forward to 26th xx

the important thing is that protocol is observed at all times without question.

I think usurps is the wrong word. The district council chairman is the first citizen of the district and takes precedence over town mayors. Only the Queen or the Lord Lieutenant or the Lord Warden take precedence over the DDC chairman (but only when representing the sovereign). However it is quite common for the DDC chairman to attend a Town function in a private capacity (no chain) when he/she will defer to the Mayor.

As you know Keith, one of the many things we agree on

is that there are too many councils and too many councillors.

PETER;
We have never actually sat down and discussed issues
we probably would find a fair bit of common ground(agreements)
on councils, its my view parish councils should stay
gt rid of KCC give these powrs to district and town councils
with the ultimate aim of making decisions at the lowest level possible
9even down to community groups)
its a big step forward
but would include the involement of local people
probaby far to radical lol

Not quality is it

cannot see the point you are making about quality mr norman.
i would like to see more parish and town councils taking more responsibilities and having the budgets to deliver services, trouble is each council fights their own corner sometimes to the detriment of the residents.
mr mcsweeney.....
Residents have never come first in this Town...and they know it....
The Town/District whatever councils are not popular at all.....in many way there relevance is only to themselves...
Something with the trading power of Christmas should be a joint effort, but joint is not encouraged in this Town...with The Traders, People in Business....entrepreneurs...youth and life............joy and celebration....not some official fart with self praise written on their chest......
