I hope so too. I think it isn't as much the politics as the manner in which it is discussed.............

Just to add a little bit extra to post 20.
The only problem with an extra politics section ( and we did do Barrys Blog to hopefully catch some of the politics) is that very often on normal topics a politics situation will rear its head. Very often quite ordinary threads about almost anything can take a political direction...so rather than start deleting posts it's not possible to totally eliminate politics ..other than us becoming a kind of big brotherish organisation. Impossible to stop or monitor. We have hopefully improved the nastyish tit for tat..its now ordinary tit for tat
If I thought a Political Section would work.. well there is nothing really stopping us doing it...but it wouldnt eliminate ardinary everyday politics creeping in here and there..thats the point I'm making. We dont want people to be afraid to mention a political point halfway through a thread.

there is nothing to stop a member starting a new thread on anything they like too.
but it would make the deliberate shoehorning of unrelated point scoring into topics more noticable though

We all know that Howard but it's just annoying to post something that has nothing to do with you know what and all of a sudden we have a full debate along with the point scoring and it ruins the whole bloody thread of what it was about in the first place.

agreed but the demand overall on this thread is for more local events, then there is no response so we must assume that politics is what people want.
just a look through the pages says it all.
for example the white cliffs countryside project work days are as local as we can get, all about people giving up their time to make our environment better so that we can all benefit.
off the top of my head only big phil has ever posted anything.

Thank's Sarah.
When the next political thread comes up I think we all ought to go on it and start carping on about how nice Pencester and the river looks, or would that be out of context?
Howard people read, you can see that by the viewings, it doesn't mean they HAVE to post.

Howard makes a very good point there about Big Phil and the WCCP...Ive noticed this myself on quite a number of similar items too, local items you think will be gobbled up but then next to nothing.
It is vital that guys start threads themselves on topics they want to talk about.

Paul, if you leave us it will skew the content even more towards politics........

But that' just the point Paul, People talk and post about things and the last thing on their mind when they make a thread is politics, and before you know it WHAM. another one bites the dust.

Stick to the theme of the thread, if you want to throw you know what in then start another thread similar. we can't go on like this.
You'r encouraging people to post to stay a member, yes very good idea.
But surely you can see why some people won't post. at times I hesitate to post or start a thread because I know what the outcome will be.

I am happy to post on a wide range of topics, sadly too often the non political threads get no response or get dragged into politics by you know who.
I have no real issue with or illusion that politics pervades an awful lot of things, however I am totally fed up with every half decent or better thread about local stuff getting turned into yet another version of the Westminster Punch and Judy show.

But it's not always about Con/Lab/Lib-Dem Politics, sometimes local politics plays a (sad) part.

Despite participating in that P&J stuff, I have to say I also get annoyed with it! There are some legitimately political threads - the NHS one, and ones with an MP in the title, for example!! But that petty party political point scoring is boring and predictable. I rather like Ian's guerilla thread idea, I have to say!! A bit of unpredictable posting would liven things up a bit!!
