Will it make any difference?
I've met Charlie a few times he seems nice, I've never met Clair I'm sure she's charming.
Charlie has done nothing for Dover in 3 years, Clair would be the same, they work for a political party not their constituents.

David. They do not work for a political party and perhaps you might find out more about how political parties actually work and not jump onto the common misconceptions and tabloid characterisations.
Charlie has done an excellent job as a constituency MP.
His work over the People's Port and stopping the DHB plans in their tracks was outstanding. He will, no doubt, carry on to see the People's Port project to a successful conclusion. You cannot underestimate the amount of work he has put in what with lobbying and his outmanoeuvring Goldfield with his amendments.
He is highly active in raising local issues time and time again at every opportunity.
I am aware of a lot of individual work for constituents that he has done as well.
He may be a bit left of my own more traditional brand of Conservatism but there is no doubt at all that he is a first class MP.
Imagine the mess Prosser would have made of things - now that is someone who did nothing for Dover.

Phew, for a minute I thought you weren't going to have a tribal dig there Barry but you'd saved it to the last line
These local issues he raises time and again Barry - what are they?

Well the most recent was publicising the unfair competitive tactics used by Eurotunnel against the other ferry companies.

The man can surely speak for himself...
"In today's backbench business debate the House spoke on the subject of tax avoidance, a subject that I have been pursuing with vigour over the last few months.
I took the opportunity today to name and shame technology companies who have Government contracts,
yet do not pay their fair share of tax. Some don't pay any tax at all. It's a real insult to hard working people who struggle to get by yet still pay their fair share of taxes."

If it was an open market the French government would have donated the ships to P&O and DFDS. And provided subsidised tax-free fuel for them.

David:
Subscribe to 'theyworkforyou' and you will be inundated with emails regarding Charlie's parliamentary activity and you can see for yourself.
I was not actually being partisan David. I merely said about our former MP what we all know about him.
Here is a copy and paste of a recent email:

Charlie Elphicke: I beg to move, That the Bill be now read a Second time. I have brought the Bill to the House today because human rights are important. Human rights matter, but they are in crisis today, with a substantial majority of the British people regarding human rights as a charter for criminals and the undeserving. A new settlement is needed to restore trust and confidence in human rights-a...

Charlie Elphicke: That is a fair point. I think we need to look at the individuals asserting a right. They might say "I have established a family; I have a right to family life" and we say, "Yes, family life is important and it does matter". In view of the fact that someone else's family life has been taken away, however, how could anyone stand on that right? How can that be...

Don't really think it matters that much as long as our MP is in the party of the government.

Thanks Barry, now what about the local issues I mentioned earlier?
Charlie works for a party in the same way others work for P&O, he wants to advance in that party which is completely understandable.
In 3 years he has done very little for his constituents, its interesting that none of the labourites are able to enforse Clair.

charlie is indeed very busy in the house, i am on the "they work for you" website also but locally i find he just claims credit for as much as he can then ducks out when things go wrong.
like most politicians i suppose.

I, by the by, thought of doing that very thing David, but there is an all too common problem:Charlie is Charlie and as a sitting MP his doings are easily discoverable, alas the single name 'Clair' yields too many spurious results.

Clair appears to be a tireless worker heavily involved in the local community and as a true local will have a real passion for the job, but on here she is Labour so that is the majority will not endorse her and as she was taken from a female only list the Labour side will not even vote for her, I wish her well and hope she is given the opportunity to represent us at Westminster.

peter,a donation of 4 ships to the two companys you mentiond would constitute a cop out and unlawfull act,i am sure would be up in arms about it.then close the port of calias to all ships for an unlimited period or untill there boats back.

David, Charlie has made the most incredible u-turns!
After being elected on a ticket of no urban congestion, he is now campaigning for Whitfield to be built up so soon as possible!!!
See Dover Express this week.
Absolutely shocking!
Don't get me wrong: if someone is in favour of something and campaigns for it, that's their right.
But to get elected and then turn around and campaign for the opposite is betrayal, in my view!

Well Brian, they've effectively donated a tunnel and lotsa train sets to Eurotunnel and they give them almost free juice. What's the difference?
