18:4887594Not at all , Howard.
You only spend "one offs" [reserves][once.
If you spend reserves [your deposit account, rainy day stuff] on normal household items paying for your weekly expenses without changing your spending habits it catches up on you.
It means when you do cut you do not have reserves[deposit account] and even less to fall back on.
It is about living within your means and taking the appropriate decisions. in a timely manner

19:0187602As ever Keith is moving away from reality.
Ask difficult questions and he has no answers.
As for May I am happy to stand on my record.
I'll be interested to see the Labour Party's answers to how they will run the District with all the competing pressures and balance a budget living on a Gordon Brown legacy.
Perhaps members of the Forum should question their Councillors and party activists on solutions for the future.
Remember Keith is still a public servant entering into the political arena, so will try to wash his hands of justifying his past and present actions in local society.

re post 23.
as a long serving politician you will know that the may elections will be about the present government's record.
as this is the first test of opinion since they came in the electorate tend to cause damage to the dangly bits.
the financial successes and failures of both of the two main parties at d.d.c. will not be an important factor in how people vote.

19:5587611Does not answer the question Keith , how will your political mates deal with the hand Gordon Brown has dealt you and us.
Not forgetting the financial blackhole your administration left behind.
What will they do to balance a budget which you admit both political-ALL Political parties have to deliver.
What will you cut?
So our Budget will be/is on display when will Gordon C,JHG, Jan T and you produce your alternative for full public scrutiny and will we be able to question you.

20:1387617looks like the successful knock about routine between paul and keith is in fine flow.
how many days are there between now and may?
the truth of the matter(in my view) is that councils are effectively castrated anyway, which party runs them is not really as important as in the past.
this is evidence by the fact that the local press rarely cover council meetings.

20:3387619Pretty encouraging Howard.
Will make us local politicians want to walk away.
We take the local hits, then you tell us it doesn't matter anyway.
So how important is it that we post on here?
If not,perhaps we'll go away.

20:4687621apologies if i phrased that badly paul.
my point was about which party is in charge.
much more importantly is the quality of the individuals that carry the torch and try to provide a service with limited dosh.
my forecast is that many good local councillors will lose their seat purely because of national political thinking, i have seen this in the past.
i think the winning party next may will inherit the chalice laced with hemlock.

20:5287622Not the case Howard, the majority of the hard decisions are on the table now.
The winning party in May will reap the benefit of the present administration doing what is right in view of the inherited financial situation.

21:5387641john, i am totally mystified why you and the other reds try to undermine vic and ukip.
they are a gift from heaven to you, they take votes from disillusioned blues.

I think it is even more important who run DDC nowadays, there is so much at stake as it will directly affect people's daily lives.
I know people grumble about their local councils, but the services and costs provided by them and the future organisation of that body and how it moves forward, is vitally important
