Finally the people of Calais get their green space back.

It never is as clear as the politicians would have us believe. They haven't caught up with the idea of mobile phones and the internet yet, and how their lies can be disproved so quickly. For all my micky taking of the home office, I do feel genuine sympathy for those poor kids in Calais, some of whom must be terrified by their situation. I'm not a fan of celebrities making statemants, nor the god-bothering crew getting their names in the press, but I hope that some of the genuine aid workers out there can get something done. UK politicians, home office beaurocrats and the like should be totally ashamed of the way they've allowed this to continue.

it's a bit harsh blaming the Home Office. The politicians set the direction and then the Home Office set and carry out the policy. As soon as the politicians agreed to accepting children, the Home Office officials reacted quickly and did what it could in really difficult circumstances.

I thought the decision to accept the calais children was agreed back in May? So only 5 months to buy some ferry tickets!

Came past the 'Jungle'late Saturday night and was amazed at the number of small aging caravans that were lined up, literally dozens of them.
On a slight deviation from the thread, I was just north of Rome at a services and was parked next to a coach load of Somalis/Ethiopians who were being driven to the Italian French border (their words and not supposition on my part). I asked one who spoke reasonably good English why they wouldn't prefer to stay in Italy and in his words he said and I quote '' Italy does not have a system of financial support like France, Germany and England''. That for me would be incentive enough to attempt to face the hardships of the journey to better my self eventually.
By the way some of them were still in the 'jump suits' provided when they are plucked from the sea. I am not for one moment suggesting we take the immigrants as and when they arrive but it would be nice if we were a little more concillatory in our attitude to them.
By the way the reason you rarely see what you and I consider to be children in the 'Jungle' is because these tend to live in the dunes around Calais for their own safety.

Why should we be concillatory towards them ,weve all witnessed their disgraceful behaviour towards the ppl of Calais , HGV vehicles and in the summer holiday makers .At the beg of the yr wasnt a coach of kids attacked leaving a child having a seizure .?

Suzie, have you truly witnessed their disgraceful behaviour or just seen TV footage? I've been the victim of 3 direct actions by the residents of the 'jungle' as a truck driver in Calais and have yet to see all of the residents attacking trucks, what I have seen is a small minority doing so
What I really hate is the 'bleeding heart' footage showing the residents of the 'jungle' as victims of our cruel nation ignoring their plight, because they are all there by choice which includes the hardliners who promote the violence aided by an element of Btits.

I agree Ken.
Virtually all the recent news footage has been on the side of those in the Jungle who were all there by choice as they could have stayed anywhere in France or the other countries they passed through.

All is not well in the reception centres with tales of forced child labour, the photo in the article does not really back the story up though.
