seems to open when it fancies which surprises me, even on a bad day there are always sea anglers around.
don't go by the sign at the entrance to the pier, kids mess around with it.

The cafe is run by a lady named 'Jules' and she does indeed open when she thinks that there is enough trade to warrant her presence. For instance she fails to open when the weather is inclimate. My old colleague ,Taffy, works there part time on an as and when required basis. He is informed very early morning should his culinary skills be needed later that day. There are no set hours or days of opening.I hope this clarifies the situation.

Took a walk down the pier today. The cafe was open, but the very end of the pier by the lighthouse is closed off at the moment for repairs to the railings.

I thought the cafe changed hands this year? Is it now not run by riverside who run the kiosks?

It is run by Riverside Sheli, the same people that run the seafront Kiosks. They are good operators and will do their best to make the Cafe a success.

martin, the only way they can do that is keeping open during pier opening times.

Brian next time I run into Robert the boss I will have a chat about his opening times, obviously there has to be trade to make the cost of opening viable.

Its a bit chicken and egg, though. I love a walk, but with a bit of a knee and having to use a walking stick I might be loathe to risk a walk down the pier if I don't know the cafe will be open. I might choose to take my tea elsewhere and avoid the pier altogether......hypothetically of course!!

I must be lucky because everytime we've walked up the Pier they have been open.

agreed martin, but say you and 30 others walked the pier on a warm/hot day like the last few days, you would expect the cafe to be open now wouldnt you.

A summer road train along the seafront and down the pier would certainly do much to increase trade for the cafe, and be another attraction for tourists. Of course, some forumites will remember the "good old days" when you could get a munubus down the end of the pier and sit in the magnificent cafe/restuarant/bar that was once at the end of the pier.
One of the things I loved about Brighton when I lived there was the little train along parts of the seafront. A lovely idea!

A little road train running from the Market Sq to the seafront wouldn't go amiss either.

I can see it all now, the driver dressed up as 'Casey Jones' manning the engine chuffing along the Dover Esplanade.
Great idea lets hope that someone takes it on board

The seafront looks superb now, but the presentation of the rest of the town would surely be a disincentive?
