Problems with planning on Westmount, then it catches fire. Struggling to complete a conversion in an old church, then it catches fire. Delays in planning and negotiating the removal of radio masts in Burlington House, then it catches fire.
How did Brooke House survive to be demolished?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Have seen pictures on Facebook. Smoke coming from the top floors. Does not look too bad but they are just pictures, think we need PaulB on the case!

This was on the Dover Express Facebook page: Dover Express
A fire has broken out in Burlington House. The fire brigade have cordoned off the street. Smoke "bellowing" from bottom levels and lower windows blown out, according to eye witnesses.
I saw the photo on Facebook (also on Dover history pages)

It regularly appears on websites like 28 days later than the like so people often illegally access it, so this doesn't surprise me
Been nice knowing you :)

Burn baby burn.
Good title for a record that.

Only photos I have seen are from a distance and can only see smoke at the top, must have risen there. It has blown some windows apparently...they are going to look great boarded up for or Olympic travelling tourists! Welcome to Dover and the most obviously horrendous building in it!

Though they were going to blow it up as the finale of the Rizzle Kicks gig, hence the road being closed :)

Just drove by there and more Fire Engines were on the way. A small crowd gathered in hope to watch the place crumble and fall.

Fire contained. 60 firefighters and 10 engines originally at the scene. Building smoke-logged but not likely to burn down

When the news report described a "derelict building" in Dover I thought that narrows it down to fifty or so. Burlington house represents a warning to other towns of the folly of buildings like this. We certainly have, at our feet, examples of poor town planning.
