Breaking news: there's going to be a vote in Parliament this Wednesday on Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB power grab.
Your MP will be weighing up how to vote. Will they stand up for democracy and decent media standards? Or will they do what they've done far too many times in the past, and let Murdoch grab even more power?
If we work together, we can make sure enough MPs vote the right way this Wednesday. We can send our MPs a flood of messages, and make them realise their voters won't stand for Rupert Murdoch getting even more control.
It's quick and easy to email your MP, and it only takes 2 minutes. Get started here:

A vote by our MPs to halt the BSkyB deal would be a huge breakthrough. The past week has seen appalling revelations of criminal and unethical activity by Murdoch papers. Now we have a chance to prove that Murdoch's control over our democracy will no longer be tolerated.

I think events are overtaking this vote with Jeremy Hunt already having written to OFCOM over the pluralty issue and the 'fit and proper' test. The ground is already being prepared to stop the takeover and avoid a judicial review. I would not be surprised if Murdoch gave up on his bid before a vote.

Clearly Cameron is not going to win the vote.
leading lib dems and even some tories are coming out of the woodwork to say there are a large number of lib dems and tories wh will vote agains the govt
Now we are hearing its not just the news of the world involved, but also the sun and the times, as the leading lib dem says, to get psast the past the test murdock has to prove he's a fit and proper person, and with police pay offs and getting medical info on ex prime ministers etc it aint looking good.

You are very desperate to taint Cameron, Keith when the story is really about the moral decay of British journalism. I suspect that while the NI group are being targeted here this disease spreads far wider. It is time the media were exposed for how they behave and I am certain a lot more is yet to materialise. Let us hope that the criminals responsible get their just deserts and we end up with a better more responsible press.

Keep it up Brian and Keith - when RedEd's association with that creep Baldwin develops it will make you look complete hypocrites unless you take the same approach as you are now with your leader.

Legally Murdoch can still bid for BSkyB.When the dust settles the temptation will determine what happens.
However it is ``Inappropriate``to discuss it at the moment.

Mr Cameron continual commons statement that he has isolated himself from BSkyB and that Mr Hunt will make the decision is an insult to the British people intelligence.
The PM role is that of a Managing Director,Chief Excecutive and indeed Chairman who will on an important matter to their company be constantly involved and would most definitely be making sure their directors knew which way they wanted the decision to go.
If that is not the case he most definitely not only lacks sound judgement but lacks leadership qualities.

Reg - have you ever run a large organisation? Or even a smaller one?
I suspect not.
There are different styles of running any organisation.
Cameron adopts my style, a delegative one where someone has a job and they get on with it and is trusted to do so. They report back to the centre and while taking policy guidance, make detailed operational decisions themselves.
While I appreciate the opposite is the favoured style of the 'big government' Labour Party, one of collective decisions and control freakery at the centre this is not Cameron's or the Conservative's preferred method.

That is still true with the deligative approach - you are responsible for selection of the team.
The point is that in this way the overall 'top-dog' is not responsible for day to day decisions so the dig made at Cameron over BSkyB is irrelevant as he does not need to get involved and should not.

Nothing to do with running away and everything to do with management style. Cameron has got it right, he should not be involved in small decisions that should be left to the relevant Ministers.
Brown and Blair got it wrong with their control freakery.
