I am no expert and this is only my opinion but as I have said before, our mines where closed in such a way that they could never become active again. Sinking new shafts would be too costly and wasteful, due to new technology, albeit slowly, being developed.
A new drift mine could be a possibility and without wanting to cause trouble, due to geological conditions, St Margaret's would be top of the list of sites. I can't see that getting passed.
Coal is a fuel that we have in abundance and it will have to be used somehow, sometime in the future. Anyone who does not believe that, are those that don't choose to, for their own reasons.
As a country, we lost huge revenues on our oil reserves. We have not learnt from that mistake, it looks like we will make the same mistake with our coal stocks.
