Ross and Howard!
An EU citizen can come to Britain and claim and receive benefits immediately providing they can prove they have been searching for work for the past few weeks. This law came out last year and it was even making the rounds on the Forum.
Bulgaria and Romania are currently on the way to alignment with all the other EU countries to fit this bill.
Haven't got a clue where Ross is getting his information from!

Brian, Keith B is specifically talking about Eastern European nationals who come here - or have the right to come here - and reside, work, claim benefits.
No-one here is talking about British nationals who came in the 50's.
What has the one got to do with the other???

Adding to post 21, any extended family member of an EU citizen who is working in Britain - or has worked in Britain or has searched for work in Britain and currently claims benefits - has the right to come to the UK and claim all the benefits under the sun which UK Plc has to offer.
As said, some need to get their facts right.

Finally, I don't know what Mr. Pot, Kettle and Black Kettle have to do with me, Ross:
I am a working man born of two British parents and have never had a nationality other than the British one.

So Brian.
Do you have any thing to say about the housing benefit payments Dover council have to give to the EU citizens living in the Dover area??
Or maybe you have something to say about the other benefits some of them are getting.
Council tax's benefits, tax credits children's benefits and more?
I remind you that this money is coming out of your council tax payments, and from general taxation
Now we all know that your labour party friends, doubled the Dover council tax in 10 years
But I am afraid that even this will not keep up with the millions more that intend coming in 2014
And do you have anything to say about the poor British workers in Dover ,not being able to get job above the minim wage ,du to over supply of cheep EU labour ?
The threads about benefits tourism Brian .

nothing wrong with tourism kieth it brings the money in.but i bet you are claiming housing benifit etc.the reason why firms are paying a minimum wage is thats all they can afford to pay.get some large decent companys who are willing to pay a good living wage but only in a dream world.

The system is mad and wrong and all the platitudes from various Governments about uncontrolled immigration from EU countries and various benefit payments, do not mean anything at all.

Brian, those who engage in benefit tourism bring no money to this country whatsoever.
I am not against sensible immigration where there is a set criteria for entrants - such as speaking English, having worthwhile qualifications and having a job to go to and not having to claim benefits.
